Turbo Damage: Causes & How to Fix It

Hi everyone,

My Vento (year of manufacture 1/96, 90PS TDI ) has only been accelerating intermittently under full load for some time now, and I especially notice it on the highway when going uphill.
I have the feeling that the turbo is only working in short bursts, because the faint whistling sound of the turbo occurs at the same frequency.
Recently, the turbo even completely failed , but I was able to fix the problem by briefly reducing the throttle, after which the wave-like boost returned.

Does anyone know about this problem and, consequently, the solution?
