Well, yesterday it happened. I started the car, put it in second gear, and there was a loud bang. The day suddenly turned into night – at least for the drivers behind me – and I barely had enough power to limp to the next parking lot. The car had 15,000 km on the clock, it hasn't been chipped, the inspection was just done, I always warmed it up properly, and let it idle before turning it off... I guess the turbocharger disintegrated. The faulty clutch after only 5,000 km was annoying, but this is even more frustrating. I think this was my first and last TDI, at least with a small engine and 'high' performance. And for that, I had to give up my A3 with a 180 horsepower engine... Frustrating.

Hi I75,
Your frustration is completely understandable!
But 15,000 km is quite low for a TDI... unless you're not using the 150 hp engine to its full potential in all gears and at every opportunity (which I'm only saying as a general observation!!!).
It should also be able to achieve the same mileage as a TDI engine.
"That is my personal opinion."
Are you still fully covered by the manufacturer's warranty at 15,000 km? I think you can achieve that with a diesel engine in well under a year...
Inspection just done???
Regards,
Wool.

Just wait a moment...
Maybe it's just a loose pressure hose; that's happened before.
Okay, take a look in the engine compartment and check if all the connections after the turbocharger are still securely connected.

Hello everyone.
No, I already understood correctly. There are supposed to be 'car torturers' out there. The car is only 6 months old, and I still have 1.5 years of warranty. Of course, I hope it's just something like a pressure hose, but at first, you're just annoyed. In addition, the whole thing isn't entirely harmless, considering the overtaking process, etc. Plus, the car now smells like an oil rig. I'm now going to walk the 2 kilometers in the rain to the parking lot and have the car towed. Or would you still go?
Regards,
Lars.

I understand a lot about engines theoretically, but I can't actually work on them myself. The roadside assistance service took a quick look under the hood. All the pressure hoses are in place. The car is now in the courtyard of the VW workshop, let's see what they say tomorrow. If the pressure pipes, etc., are okay, then it's probably only the turbocharger that's the problem, I think. If that's the case, is it usually just the turbocharger that's replaced? Is there a risk that metal shavings or similar debris could have gotten into the cylinders?

Hi,
"With my AHF, the loader also ripped once (new loader due to a stuck VTG, covered by warranty). It lasted for 200 km of gentle driving and 500 meters of full power. I think it's a matter of luck how it turns out for the engine." Here's the translation:
"After that, I exchanged the following:"
- Complete exhaust system including catalytic converter (due to engine oil leaking from the turbocharger).
- Intercooler (fragments/debris from the turbocharger), fortunately, the larger pieces seem to get caught here.
- Intake system cleaned.
The compression test results were good (~32-34 bar), and the cylinder head was not removed.
Since then, I've driven 30,000 km. The oil consumption is zero when driving at low speeds, but it's 0.1 liters per 1000 km when driving at sustained speeds of 180+ km/h on the highway.
Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, the car is fixed. Luckily, it was only the long pressure hose that wrapped around the engine that burst. However, this was not immediately visible; the plastic pipe had a crack precisely at the joint. Two days without a car - that was already bad enough .

Lars.
