One of my acquaintances owns an AUDI A6 2.5 TDI, and for him, the car is just a means of transportation. Things like maintenance intervals and so on don't really interest him much.
However, he had his car 'chipped' recently, and he was surprised that it actually made very little difference!
So, I called customer service and requested troubleshooting. Less than fifteen minutes later, the technician arrived with the measurement tools and said that the mass airflow sensor (MAF) was faulty. (Is the MAF sensor the only possible cause of errors in these vehicles?)
So, my acquaintance took a new one. Of course, he was annoyed, because 260 euros is not a small amount of money.
He asked me to install it. No problem, I immediately got to work. After I removed the top of the air filter housing, I saw a black object that must have once been an air filter.
I asked him to hit it against the floor, and it immediately disappeared in a cloud of dust!
I swept up and photographed the pile that was on the ground. I'm sure the wind has carried away the same amount.

It's obvious that no more air mass can be measured, right?
Conclusion: €260 wasted, but now he's going to replace the air and diesel filter.
Thank you to the capable and friendly people.
Regards,
Manuel.
