VW T4: Convert Automatic to Manual Transmission

Getriebekennbuchstabe EQZ. Neues Getriebe mit Einbau kostet etwa 6500 Euro. Gebraucht nicht sinnvoll. Überholen, hmm? Probably too expensive.

Okay, I'm now considering converting to a manual transmission. What should I be aware of? What does the engine control unit (ECU) say about this?

The engine control unit should be the least of your problems (reprogramming is usually possible).

I don't think the rest will be that easy. I'm planning to look for a repair shop that specializes in transmissions.

Since you would have to install a manual transmission yourself, you can also remove or install an automatic transmission.

Hello, this is a customer order. I need to provide a 2-year warranty on everything I do. Therefore, I need a solution that complies with that. I estimate that a repair with installation, etc., will ultimately cost between 2500 and 3500 euros. Installing a new gearbox would cost around 2000 to 2500 euros. And then it will work!

If you have to put yourself at risk for it, I would completely avoid buying used transmissions. This is especially true if you're installing a used transmission with an unknown condition. If you send the automatic transmission to a repair shop, then the mechanic is responsible for their work on that component, and you are responsible for the tasks of removing and installing it. Anything else would be too risky for me.

Show your client what you can do and what responsibilities you can take on. But be careful: with all that enthusiasm, there's a great risk that you'll end up with a never-ending project.

I would also leave that to the repairer for warranty reasons. Instead, I would negotiate a brokerage commission .
