Many modern engines no longer have a magnetic oil drain plug. Actually, modern engines (usually) have become more durable, and there is less wear and tear in the engine oil.
Nevertheless, the very simple and inexpensive replacement of the oil drain screw with one featuring magnets is a measure that can, in a preventative manner, reduce engine wear.
Additionally, this provides an early warning system for engine problems, as a large amount of debris found on the magnet during an oil change indicates that something is wrong.
Therefore, I highly recommend it.
