Hello,

my car:

Skoda Octavia 1U5.
Year of construction: 2000.
350,000 km
1.9 TDI
Engine AHF.

Perhaps you can help me with an initial assessment, something just happened:

My Octavia starts, but immediately runs with an elevated idle speed of just under 1100 RPM.
He had never done that before; it always maintained a constant, quiet, and normal idle speed.

"Also, it's not taking any gas at all. Absolutely none, no matter how much I press the pedal."

And after a few seconds, the indicator light started to glow.

Otherwise, there were no warning lights that came on.

What could that possibly be now?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,

Typically, the error occurs in the accelerator pedal (plausibility check) -> Automatically enters emergency mode with increased idle speed.

Often, there is moisture present, which could be due to the connectors on the control unit or inside the connector box in the water tank.

best regards
christian.

P.S.: Reading the error codes will give you certainty.

Okay, thank you in advance.

The control unit is also located in the water tank, as is the connector box.

The question is whether simply standing there with a hairdryer will be enough.

Or whether there might be other areas that could be affected.

Unfortunately, it's not easy to get to the workshop to have the diagnostic tool connected now, especially since the car isn't even drivable.

Hi, I managed to find another friend with a diagnostic tool, and the old Octavia is throwing the following error codes:

00668 - Voltage at terminal 30.
27-00 - implausible signal.
18047 - Throttle position sensor (G79) + (G185).
P1639 - 35-10 - Implausible signal - Intermittent.

What does "getting a new accelerator pedal" mean? Or could it be something else entirely?

Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to order a used accelerator pedal, connect it, and see if it works again.

Perhaps the easiest approach is to follow the steps outlined here. Check if any connectors are damp or even waterlogged, and inspect the wiring harness. There are guides available online that explain how you can use measurement techniques to troubleshoot the potentiometer yourself.

In the worst-case scenario, you can obtain a replacement part.

Hi, quick update:
I got a new accelerator pedal for 15€ from a junkyard, installed it in a few minutes, and the car was running again icon_smile.gif.
Thank you for your help!
I'm still glad that I didn't have to organize a massive troubleshooting effort or disable any control units, but that the problem was so easy to fix.
