Hello.
Many of you probably know this website, but it's still interesting to see how casually they handle the injector replacement. There's nothing mentioned about a changed spray pattern, and the opening pressure is also treated rather loosely. But apparently, even a standard 1Z engine can handle being tuned to 150 horsepower (at least for 80,000 km).

Hello,
The type of tuning is now so simple and ingenious, and quite feasible for an experienced mechanic thanks to the VW modular system. A great example is this Golf3TDI with an AFN engine from Thomas ( http://kickme.to/golf3tdi ). It's a fantastic website with good descriptions and experiences on this topic.
Regards,
Sepp.

Hi there!
I was just on that website earlier... it sounds promising in principle, but reading this article puts things into a bit of perspective.
Can anyone tell me if it's worth getting a Golf 3 1Z exhaust system, and if so, what size should I get? I'm not really satisfied with the performance as it is... for clarification:
Yesterday, I drove my sister's car on my usual commute route (Oberhausen to Cologne). It's an Opel Astra F with a 60 horsepower gasoline engine.
Surprising result: While the acceleration is worse, it has almost the same top speed as my Golf (around 185 km/h). If I didn't know I had a 90 hp TDI, I would probably guess around 75 hp based on this comparison. Does anyone else have any insights about this?
And finally, I just read something about an oil consumption of 0.5 liters per 7500 km... how much is actually acceptable? I have to add about 0.5 liters every two tank fills, which would be almost 5 liters per 7500 km according to that calculation... *horrified face*
Sure, no problem.
Best regards,
misterx

Hello X,
Have you ever checked the speedometers? There can easily be an error of 15 to 20 km/h.
A car with only 60 horsepower will never reach a true speed of 185; if it's in good condition, it will likely reach around 165. My 60-horsepower Polo managed to hit just over 170 on the speedometer, maybe 175 after a long run-up. I was quite disappointed when I checked its actual speed back then, and it turned out there was an error of about 10 km/h on the speedometer.
With this particular Astra, the problem will be even greater because the Astra likely has more aerodynamic drag than the Polo, and therefore requires more power to compensate.
And now, suppose that your car only deviates by 5 km/h from the speedometer reading (the maximum speed is 180 km/h for the 1Z model), and then everything makes sense.
Best regards,
