Hello everyone,
I have a T5 Multivan here with the BRS engine (1.9 TDI pump-injector). The customer had problems with the camshaft sensor, which was replaced. Since then, there are no further error codes stored. It starts up perfectly again. (That was the reason for the visit to the workshop).
Now, I wanted to check the rotation angle in measurement block 004, but it's stuck at 0.0. Could it be that this doesn't work with all control units, or what else could be the cause?
The car only shows 90 horsepower on the dynamometer, or do I need to activate a dynamometer mode for the measurement?
Thank you for your input. |

Hello,
Do you mean the synchronization angle?
Good question. If the timing belt is very tight, it will likely vibrate less. I have no idea if it can really stay at 0 kW, but hopefully the engine was still running during that time.

Yes, exactly, the synchronization angle is what's being referred to. The engine was running, both when cold and warm, at both high and low RPM. The display always showed 0.0 and wasn't grayed out. "Of course, that's not realistic, which is why I'm wondering in what situation the display is set to 0.0." |

In cases of such unusual behavior, I would first check whether the software in the engine control unit is original. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Rainer Kaufmann - dieselschrauber VCDS Shop |

There was something about "angle synchronization reset to zero" when outside the measurement range. Look over there, the first post by Dieselbear is on the second page.

Brief update: Herbert put me on the right track. Thank you very much for that.
It seems that when there's even a slight deviation, the area is no longer evaluated.
Today, I re-aligned the timing and initially thought it was correct, but I loosened the camshaft sprocket, re-attached everything carefully, and then I got a reading of -2. However, the adjustment during this process could only have been minimal. I didn't move any teeth, and the screws are still centered in the elongated holes. On Monday, I will continue assembling parts and put the car back on the dynamometer for another test.
Best regards,
Frank. |
