Hello, if your car starts to produce black smoke when it's running at partial load, then it's not getting enough air.
If the EGR valve is closed, it won't produce soot, as you mentioned.
It's quite possible, as Jan wrote, that a leak in the boost pressure system is the cause.
A clogged air filter could also be a possible cause.
Perhaps you could post a picture of the turbocharger that is installed in your car.
It should be a Garrett turbocharger. I don't think there's a hole in the boost pressure area; if there were, the boost pressure sensor would likely trigger an error message, and you would notice a decrease in performance.
I suspect it's more likely a problem with the EGR valve control. BMW wants to check that now. The parameters in the engine control unit are adjustable, similar to how it works with VAG-COM on Audi/VW vehicles.

@MikeL
How about you, what's your experience with LMM?
BMW is experiencing similar problems with the mass airflow sensor (MAF) as Volkswagen. When the MAF provides incorrect data intermittently, it can cause excessive soot emissions.
I'm starting to doubt that your problem is primarily related to the EGR valve. Gruß Bertil

Oops, did I accidentally include your pipe in the picture?
Well, that's a matter of "public interest," so I don't need to ask any further questions!
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I'm slowly starting to not believe that your problem is primarily related to the EGR valve.
The mass airflow sensor (LMM) has already been replaced and is working correctly. Now, BMW has made another change to a parameter in the software related to the EGR valve, which was apparently not set to the correct value. I need to test it again now.

The problem has been resolved. The workshop changed the EGR control parameter using the diagnostic interface (DIS) to a different, lower value. Since then, there's been no more black smoke, and the car runs better. Thank you again for your suggestions.
The VW/Audi group has it better here because you can at least intervene yourself using tools like VAG-COM, while BMW owners are always dependent on the workshop.
Regards,
Mike.
