Hello,

The 1.9 block has been in use for a long time.
The same engine block is used for models with power outputs ranging from 60 to 150 horsepower.
So, besides the cylinder head, are the crankcase, bearings, and especially the alloys always the same? Or is every engine different?
Is it correct to assume that, aside from the price, there is no difference between a model with 100 horsepower and one with 150 horsepower, and that significant savings can be achieved through electronic tuning?
The differences in the braking system, suspension, and gear ratio should be disregarded for the purpose of this discussion.
Who knows?

Thank you for your contributions.

Hello ObenbeiMutti,

Take a look at Bertil's article on the subject; it should answer many of your questions.

This assumption is fundamentally wrong!

Here are the changes that come to mind right away:
- Turbocharger
- PD elements
- LLK
- Fuel cooling
- Crankshafts
- Storage
- Piston
- Engine control unit (ECU)
Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate.

Sometimes, different connecting rods and piston pins are also used.

The AXR (74kW D4) even has a completely different exhaust system design... (with a water-cooled EGR system).

You can find everything else using the search function.

Oh yes, and the 1.9-liter engine is not the "mother of all TDI engines" (see the article mentioned above).
