Help... a raccoon has chewed through both of my charge air cooler hoses. Chrysler wants over €550.00 for the original parts.
I am now looking for alternatives. Can I use other hoses instead of the original parts, and possibly combine them with aluminum pipes?
Is there anything specific I should be aware of? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
I would be very grateful for any tips or suggestions.
Regards,
Merlot.

I find Chrysler's pricing strategies amusing once again.
You can use charging pressure hoses from any source, I would say.
Assuming the diameter and shape are correct.
I once needed two axle shafts for a Voyetcher or something like that.
both together for 210 EUROS
Of course, I didn't buy them, and I got universal magnetic catches for 10 euros each.
Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister

Hello,
I might go check the junkyard for radiator hoses.
Best regards, Rainer.

Aluminum pipes should heat up more, which would require a less effective cooling of the intake air. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Why should it be like that?

Well, I was thinking something like this:
Aluminum heats up relatively quickly. If you replace the plastic tubes with aluminum tubes, they will heat up due to their proximity to the engine. Therefore, they will be warmer than the plastic tubes. As a result, the intake air will be heated again as it flows through them.
That's what I thought. Of course, it's possible that the increased heating during the ride, due to airflow etc., is negligible. It's probably even the case when I think about it. Specifically, the pipes leading to the intercooler are likely to get warmer due to their proximity to the engine, but that probably doesn't matter. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Well, those are very interesting aspects, but there are tuning parts that use exactly those components.
I would like to know if I would experience any disadvantages as a result of this.
I already asked a used parts dealer, and he might be able to get a hose.
My idea: Use silicone tubes as bends... Cut the aluminum tube to the desired length and secure it with a clamp (so that the clamp holds).
Is this a good deal? Or should I just give the money to Chrysler... the prices don't seem to be justified.
Regards,
Merlot.

Well, the material doesn't really matter.
When you buy bows, they're not exactly cheap...
Best regards, Rainer.
