@ Bertil!
We actually have almost the same car (Me: G3 station wagon, 66 kW, first registered 02.01.1995, with 205,000 km on the clock, nicknamed 'Pink Floyd').
'Last November, when I was considering buying an A6 with 198,000 kilometers on the odometer, my Audi dealer offered me €3,500. Other dealers gave me similar offers. They all explained that, given the mileage, the car was no longer suitable for sale and could only be used as a source of spare parts.'
I ended up keeping it and sold my 14-year-old Polo with approximately 250,000 kilometers on the odometer.
@ others:
I deal with used car dealers a lot in my profession. At least the smaller, local dealers typically don't have insurance to cover warranties. They prefer to observe the situation. Many have had no complaints so far, even though they usually just sell the cars without any further refurbishment (except for cosmetic improvements/mileage tampering???).
Best regards, D.

'So, I checked out autoscout24.de because some people here still think the car is a bit expensive. But the ones listed there are all around €6,000, and most of them have around 160,000 km on them, while mine only has 130,000 km! I looked at the car carefully, and I didn't find anything to complain about, no scratches or anything! Except for a small accident on the front door, which happened 4 years ago, and it wasn't a structural damage.'
What I probably should have said: It's a 5-door model!
The vehicle has new TÜV (technical inspection) and AU (emissions test) certificates, so the dealer took care of them. This means I won't have to go to the TÜV again until 2004. I haven't been able to take a test drive yet because it needs to be checked one more time, but I don't expect that to be a problem.
@jan6k thank you, it will probably be fine; you just have to get the right examiner on the right day...

Stukov wrote: | Do you think there are already insurances for something like that? I can hardly imagine that an insurance company would get involved in something like this, because you could basically defraud the insurance companies in any way you want. The dealer knowingly buys cars that are actually bad for more money, of course gets his share from the seller, and then sells the car again. Then it comes back, the insurance company pays out, and the dealer has made a nice profit.
I can't really imagine that; it would be like making a bet with someone that I wouldn't be able to eat two bread rolls one after the other. |
@Stukov
However, there are used car warranty insurance options available, but the price depends on the age and condition of the vehicle, and they don't accept all cars. If the insurance company refuses coverage, the dealer is in a difficult position anyway! So, engaging in fraud with unreliable vehicles is something he should think very carefully about.

@D.
I've also heard that saying, but with the addition of the sentence "... he's probably going to Poland or Lithuania right away..."
A few days later, I met a group of guys from Lithuania (I've known them for a while), and I asked them about it. Their answer was: "...if it's broken (due to an accident), I'll give you 4500 euros, I don't really need it..." So, the Lithuanian was offering me more money for a defective car than the dealer was asking for the whole car...!!! But it wasn't worth it to me.
@ Markus W.
If you search on Mobile.de, you will find significantly more vehicles! For example, a search for: VW, Golf, 56-66 kW, 2500-4999 EUR, Diesel, with air conditioning, currently yields 37 matching vehicles. However, if you search for 5000-7499 EUR, there are currently 217 vehicles! Gruß Bertil

@ Bertil!
The Polish or Lithuanian team won't receive the car directly from you, but from the car dealership where you/I are trading it in.
The car dealership will definitely make an additional 500 to 1,000 EUR on this.
They have to do that too, because at the moment, they can only cover their expenses, including those for selling new cars with salesperson commissions, showroom costs, etc., through the used car business. The new car business is currently almost dead.
Best regards, D.

Hello D.
Yes, that's true, but the Lithuanian man only wanted the car to be totaled! There would have easily been another 1000 euros or more from the insurance company! Gruß Bertil
