'Exchange engine' primarily means that you 'trade in' your old engine. If you just buy a new engine, you would still have another engine for the garage... just to look at!
'Rebuilt engines are thoroughly overhauled engines. Some older components, such as the oil pan and engine block, are refurbished and reused. To my knowledge, the cylinder head is always brand new.'
Don't worry, these engines are top-notch. My replacement ALH engine in my Golf 4 was also a great piece of equipment, and it never let me down (unlike the original engine).
Will the PD-Es also be refurbished or rebuilt from the old engine? I would prefer to have new ones... if that is possible.
