Hey, I did a quick test with VAG-COM today, and guess what, I got a Drehzahl signal. I was so excited, like a little kid. icon_biggrin.gif
Now I know that my Skoda has a sensor. However, I don't have a direct idea of how to extract the RPM signal from the limited connections of the OBD2 connector in a way that would allow me to add an aftermarket tachometer.

Before I get another scolding, I've searched and read, but I haven't found anything that directly helps me, or it failed because of my 'blindness' or my spelling. icon_confused.gif

Looking forward to your answers. icon_wink.gif

Okay, so you know what kind of car it is: a Skoda Felicia LX 1.9D, so it has an ABE engine, but it's an SDI. icon_cry.gif

And please, don't make fun of me just because I don't have a turbo; it's annoying enough as it is. icon_cry.gif

Best regards. BigB.

Hello.
I once retrofitted a tachometer into a friend's Audi 80 from 1984. It was simple: I just replaced the clock with a dashboard instrument (KI) that included a tachometer – and that was it! It might still be that simple today.

Hi,

I would never try to get that signal from the K-bus; it would be a huge undertaking because there's a lot of decoding and other processing that would be required.

You can either find it on some cable, possibly even the connector for the instrument cluster, or you can rig up a small magnet + Hall sensor in a suitable location – the latter is usually easier.

Best regards,

Jan.
