Hello Thomas,
I didn't want to attack anyone here. Sorry if it was understood that way.
Topics like open air filters are so boring that they even bore me – I can definitely understand that.
Only when someone has a more complex problem, which is often the case here, does it require attention in a forum like this.
Because if you're not sure what the problem might be, you might just start searching for "Russ" – see what happens then...
But enough about that!
So, I think I'll probably have the valve timing adjusted next week.
How did you do that? Did you deliver the parts to Bosch?
Do they need to know that a larger nozzle is being used now? (I heard they might not like that.) Do I need to buy any other parts or anything like that?
Thank you, best regards, Bernd. Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99

Hi Bernd,
The Bosch service center should have everything needed to adjust the injectors.
It's best not to say anything about the modifications. Just let them adjust the nozzles to the pressure. If they really want to know why, you can tell them a little bit. They're not stupid, you know!
I'm just going to take the entire nozzle assembly with me!
Best regards.

Hello.
I've now had the injectors pressure-tested. The opening pressures were within the acceptable range (+- bar). However, the spray pattern from two of the injectors wasn't particularly good. The Bosch service cleaned the injector bodies, and the spray pattern now looks much better. The engine runs a bit smoother, and there's less soot, although it's not completely gone.
I think what's happening now is normal, because the larger nozzles inject more fuel. Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99
