Mechanical TDI engine in a Fiat Croma - Adaptation to a VW engine block

Hi there.
I did some research and came across the mechanical TDI engine in the Fiat Croma, which was first produced in 1987 (!).
The Bosch database provides the following information on this topic:

Has anyone ever checked whether these components can be adapted to a VW 1.9 TDI engine block (specifically the MKB 1Z, AHU, or AFN models)?

Emission regulations and roadworthiness are irrelevant here; it's purely about the technical feasibility.
