Hello,
I'm planning to buy a PDA soon and want to make sure that the VAG-Check software will run on it, or that it can be connected to the diagnostic interface using an adapter.
On the VAG-Check page, under "Requirements," it states: "Serial connection."
The HP iPAQ 2210 explicitly lists this feature in its specifications, while the Dell Axim X3i does not. Shouldn't every current PDA (PPC) have a serial port?
What cables/adapters are still needed for the connection?

If I remember correctly, there used to be a link or a list of devices where the software was running for other users. However, it might not be there anymore. I haven't visited that website in ages!

It's probably safe to assume the software is working, but what I meant was the connection of the PDA to the car's interface, and which type of connection the PDA needs. Also, what cables or adapters are required for that.

You probably need an adapter from PDA to serial (COM -> RS232)... But I wonder if something like that even exists?
I have a Toshiba e400. There's only one USB host cable available for it...

 hi
Maybe someone can help me.
'Unable to establish communication between the SG (System Gateway) and the PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) during jornada 540, possibly related to a VAG check.'
The interface (I don't know the specific model or brand) works with a laptop.
Null modem cable, crossed (2---3, 7---8, 6 and 1 ---4) as described on the arlab homepage, serial sync cable.
Should the connection automatically establish (when the ignition is on)?
Best regards.

Hello,
I also can't connect to the PDA - but it works with the notebook. Maybe the interface with the optocouplers is just 'bad'. Why aren't they using a MAX232 chip here?
Best regards, Gerard.

Due to the galvanic isolation! None of us want our STG (Steuergerät - control unit) to be damaged, which could easily happen if someone powers the laptop next to the diagnostic connection from the cigarette lighter...
It also includes an interface with a MAX232 chip. This interface is from Maik. See the technical article...
Regards,
Sure, here's the translation:
"Guste" is a German word that means "gust" or "gust of wind." It can also be used to describe a sudden burst of something, such as laughter or anger.

Why should anything break down there?
The K-line is robust and operates with 12V. Regarding the control units, absolute insensitivity to external influences is required.
RS-232 is also robust and operates with approximately ±12V.
You might end up creating a ground loop through the power outlet, which can then cause communication errors.
When dealing with PDAs, it's crucial to pay close attention to the pinout of the interface, as well as the type of interface. For example, a Palm M100 has a true RS232 interface externally (the MAX232 is internal to the Palm). This means you either need a crossed cable for something like a modem, or a straight-through cable for the ISO interface.

Hello!
I thought the MAX232 handled galvanic isolation? If not, then potential differences could equalize through the interface, which is not a good thing.
However, Mark offers an adapter that uses the ISO9141-2 standard, and it also works with the MAX232.
Best regards, Gerhard.
