Hello to all diesel car owners,

'Does anyone have any idea how this could have happened? Part of the valve is still stuck inside, and the spring force of the valve spring isn't strong enough to push it out? I can't really understand how that would be possible.'

I initially suspected the noise was coming from the timing belt, but it seemed to be fine. Then, when I opened [something], I saw...

Visually, it appears that none of the valves have touched any of the piston heads. However, three other hydraulic cylinders have been affected. They seem to be located in the middle and pointing upwards?

Thank you very much for your information.

Stefan.

P.S. It's a Volkswagen Golf 4 TDI, 1.9L engine, 90 horsepower, manufactured in November 1999.

"Could the timing belt have skipped a tooth? It looks like the pistons and valves have formed a close relationship, and the camshaft then ground down the extended hydraulic lifter..."

Regards,
Sure.

Here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Guste" means "gust" in English. It can also be used as a verb, meaning "to gust."

.

It could have been that way too.

Was wären die Übersetzungen für "Wurde vor den Zerlegen die Steuerzeiten mal überprüft.."?

Here are a few possible translations, depending on the context:

* **"Were the valve timings checked before disassembly?"** (This is the most straightforward and common translation.)
* **"Has anyone checked the valve timing before taking it apart?"** (This implies that someone else might have already done this check.)
* **"Was a valve timing check performed prior to dismantling?"** (This is a more formal and technical translation.)

The best translation will depend on the specific context in which the sentence is used.

Hi everyone,

'First of all, thank you for the initial suggestions. Before disassembly, the timing was correct on the belt, which is what makes this situation so incredibly puzzling.'

I'll take some more pictures of the underside of the head and the valve later tonight, but you can't see anything in the photos. There's also nothing visible on the pistons. I already have an offer for a used head for 400 euros.

Did you check the timing at the pulley itself, or did you actually use a ruler or similar tool on the vacuum pump side?
-> keyword: truncated cone

Once, in my Kadett, the oil pressure dropped immediately after starting. I barely managed to make it to a gas station before the hydraulic lifters started making a terrible clattering noise.
Since I'm systematic, I started from the beginning. On the Opel engine block, you could access the pressure regulating valve of the oil pump from the outside. So, I looked inside and removed the spring and control piston. That's when a small piece fell into my hand – either sealing material or plastic (maybe from an oil canister?). It got stuck in front of the piston, which caused the oil pressure to drop. If it had gone through completely, the oil filter would have caught it...
assembling, running.

That could also be a cause of the problem: dirt, a broken oil filter, etc.

CU Gremlin.

Hi there,

If valves and pistons have been in contact, it might not be immediately obvious from looking at the piston itself. The valve next to it came from my AFN engine after a crack in the valve seat. The hydraulic lifter was completely shredded and stuck. There was absolutely nothing visible on the piston.
By the way, my engine has been running perfectly since the head repair, for about 50,000 kilometers.

Greetings.
