TDI Performance Issues: 81kW Engine (AHF)

I drive a Skoda Octavia SLX (81 kW), manufactured in May 1999, with engine code AHF and 42,500 kilometers on the odometer.
Some time ago, I occasionally experienced a lack of power when accelerating, which I ignored because it happened very rarely.
'When accelerating, the power drops off around 2500 RPM. It feels like the turbo boost is decreasing. I'm also struggling to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. If I disconnect the mass airflow sensor (MAF), it feels like I'm driving a diesel engine with only 50 horsepower. So, the MAF sensor seems to be affecting performance. I tried cleaning it with brake cleaner, but that didn't improve anything. Could this now be related to the variable turbine geometry (VTG)?'

If you suspect that the issue is related to VTG (Variable Transmission Gear), please refer to the relevant article for more information; I have made it available online for this purpose.
Also, always read the error memory when there are engine problems.

Again, no one can clairvoyance, your error description is too vague.
