Hello,

I somehow feel like this doesn't quite fit here, but I think I might be able to find the answer.
I have a Golf 3 TDI. Currently, I have a BOSI exhaust on it with an oval, DTM-style design. That's why I have to clean the back of my car every 2-3 days.
Does getting a car with straight exhaust pipes help, or is it impossible to prevent the black smoke coming from the exhaust?
Ich habe die Frage schon im MT Forum gepostet und da sagte man mir, dass es auch mit orig. ESD is turning black.

Best regards,
cksIT

Someone in this forum just posted about aftermarket exhaust tips and a black rear spoiler.

I have a station wagon (which usually has a rear spoiler) and no roof rails.

I'm not sure whether this is due to my original exhaust pipes or the lean combustion.

AU K-value approximately 0.7.

1. For it to turn black, there must be some soot present.
2. In order for the damage to become visible on the rear of the vehicle within 3 days, either the daily mileage must be extremely high, or there must be significant soot buildup.
3. If this were my vehicle, I would first try to identify the cause of the excessive smoke.

Hast du Chiptuning, oder eine PowerBox? Sind deine Einspritzdüsen hin? Excessive thirst?
Those are the questions I would ask myself.

A downward-angled exhaust can certainly reduce the blackening of the rear, but whether that will be enough in your case is questionable. With a healthy engine and a stock exhaust system, the rear should not blacken.

Regards,
Sure, here's the translation:

"Guste" is a German word that means "gust" or "gust of wind." It can also be used to describe a sudden burst of something, such as laughter or anger.

Hi,

I agree with my predecessors... check if there's excessive soot being produced, and otherwise, the downward-angled exhaust is the best solution. My Ibiza has NEVER been black in the back, not even when it was producing excessive soot due to a coolant leak.

Best regards,

Jan.

All the TDIs with sport mufflers that I've seen so far have scratches on the rear bumper – at least, I haven't seen any with a sport exhaust that doesn't have scratches.
Apparently, this pollution is also the reason why the standard exhaust systems on the TDI models are curved downwards.
This ensures that the exhaust gases immediately mix with the air flowing underneath the vehicle and are drawn backwards. As a result, soot does not accumulate on the bodywork.

It would also logically follow that a TDI engine with an original exhaust system and a straight exhaust extension attached to it would self-ignite.

Why is there a knocking sound in a new 530D?
It has two exhaust pipes that are not bent downwards; in fact, they are highly polished.

He might have a Russian profanity filter.
Peugeot is also known for producing these types of filters and exhaust pipes.

@ Marfan

Take a look at the rear bumpers on the Golf and the other models!

The golf club has a rounded end, which allows air to flow smoothly upwards.

The 530d has a sharp edge – and that's where the pipes are located -> so the exhaust gases are deflected.

>>1. In order for it to turn black, there must be some soot present.

Well, actually, every diesel engine produces some soot. Some produce more, and some produce less.

>>2. In order for the damage to become visible on the rear of the vehicle within 3 days, either the daily mileage must be extremely high, or there must be significant soot buildup.

I drive approximately 100 kilometers every day.
I don't actually see any soot in the rearview mirror during the day. It's only at night, when someone is driving behind me with their lights on, that I see these hazy clouds appear.

"If this were my vehicle, I would first try to find the cause of the excessive smoke."
>>Do you have chip tuning or a power box installed? Are your fuel injectors faulty? Excessive fuel consumption?

The chip I have is made by a subsidiary of Nothelle.
I had also been thinking about the injectors. I wanted to replace them with AFN injectors, but unfortunately, Bosch no longer offers any service in that regard. They don't repair or replace them anymore.
"Actually, the fuel consumption is quite high. I'm currently getting 7 liters per 100 kilometers with 215 tires, a chip tuning module, and the air conditioning running."

"With a properly functioning engine and a working oxygen sensor, the exhaust won't produce black smoke."
That's exactly what I wanted to know.

Is there still a way to get the nozzles at a reasonable price?

The newer 5.0 BMWs, equipped with 3.0 and 2.5-liter engines, meet the Euro 4 emissions standards thanks to diesel particulate filters.
Recognizable by its straight, chrome-plated exhaust pipes.

Does the original exhaust system produce no noise?

Okay, in my G3 with the overboosted 10c, for example, it doesn't happen, but if I look at a good quarter of the CDI taxis allowed in Munich, I'm not so sure. They're black, and you can see the exhaust area. However, you have to maintain a distance of 3 meters from them at the traffic light, especially if one of those vehicles has a fog generator. When they start, everyone gets wet.

Okay, but you can't compare the old swirl chamber technology with the TDI engines.

No, I was referring to Common Rail - Mercedes-Benz 'quality trucks'.
However, even in a friend's brand new 1.9L 150 HP common rail engine, I was able to observe excessive soot formation (new car, all values within nominal range).

That's my poorly tuned AFN, a real clean machine icon_lol.gif.

But listen...

What made you decide to install a straight exhaust pipe on your Golf 1Z?
Are you one of those people who remove the rear wiper, even though you can't see anything in the rain, just for the sake of aesthetics? My understanding stops right there.

Okay, then the topic is closed, and I can proceed. Otherwise, we'll just have another discussion about the questionable usefulness of such renovations, which will lead to nothing.
