Passat PD ATJ: Engine Performance Issues

It's that time again.
Last fall, my Passat B5 occasionally experienced intermittent power loss, which was only resolved after restarting the engine.

The error log contained the following error message, as far as I can recall the exact wording:

Pressure exceeded the limit for a short time - intermittently.

This error could not be fixed because it simply stopped occurring at some point. Since the error has reappeared in the last few days, I suspect a direct connection to the ambient temperature.

Regarding the specific error behavior:
The vehicle (85 kW/PD) generally behaves normally. However, when a certain engine speed is exceeded (approximately 3100 RPM), the power suddenly drops.

I urgently need help because the enjoyment factor is significantly reduced with this kind of driving behavior.

Try searching for "heavy-duty VTG" - that should describe your problem.

This is the typical symptom of a stuck adjustment range in the turbocharger mechanism, specifically one that's preventing it from achieving the desired boost pressure -> resulting in excessive pressure at high RPM and high load -> leading to a limp mode.

Most often, the problem lies with the charging mechanism itself (as already mentioned), but in more unusual cases, it could also be due to the boost pressure solenoid valve or the control hoses.

As far as I can tell after a brief inspection, everything seems to be working mechanically. However, I can't explain the connection to the temperature.
