(the black plastic thing with the two electrodes in the coolant expansion tank).

The part broke today (of course, it's Saturday at 4:00 PM) – there's a crack between the threads and the head.

I would at least try to take the car to the VW workshop on Monday, but it's a shame to take a day off for that.

Is there anything that makes the expansion tank 'leak-proof'?

(Or does anyone happen to be from the Wiesbaden/Mainz area and have a spare one that I could pick up on Sunday?)

Regards,

(Edit of the thread title by ulf)

Silicone or 2K adhesive (make sure it is compatible with the container material!).

Will it really be that hot that you won't be able to make it to VW on Monday without bringing a bottle of water?

Hello Julian, thank you for your reply.

Since I didn't know what else to do, I ended up doing it this way:

I cut off the two electrodes.
Then I drilled a hole through the lid and inserted an iron bolt with two washers, securing it with a nut.
Now, the threaded part (ring) is tightly pressed onto the lid, and only a very small amount of water comes out (between the screw and the lid).
I think this is how I'll get in touch with VW.
By the way, what's the probability that this part is in stock?
I mean, this part definitely doesn't only fit in a Jetta or Golf, right?

I would also be interested in the price. Could someone please check on that? Thank you.

Regards,

Hendrik.

Less than 10€ and is usually in stock, especially if it's the round one that's also used in the Golf IV!

It's always easier for others to help if they know what kind of vehicle and, most importantly, what type of engine it is.

Regards,

Manuel.
