VW Passat TDI: Combination Instrument Board Repair

"Regarding the vehicle from May 2000 with an AFB engine and automatic all-wheel drive, the MFA (Multi Function Display) shows a brake error message, and the ABS light is illuminated in the instrument cluster. When reading the fault memory, an error related to the combination instrument circuit board is displayed. Is it possible that there's a bad solder joint or a faulty connector, or is replacement of the entire unit the only solution?"

We'll probably only be able to say for sure after it has been removed and visually inspected.
Perhaps it's just a connection problem with a plug.
