Yesterday, while working on my A4 in the garage, I discovered an unknown puddle. It smelled like oil. I drove to my mother-in-law's and somewhere on the way home, the oil warning light came on. I pulled over, checked the dipstick, and it was definitely low on oil. I added some and barely made it home. I looked around but didn't find anything suspicious near the oil filter. I topped it off again. This morning, there was a huge puddle. So, time for some investigation. After searching for a while, I found the source. It was leaking from the clutch bell housing while the engine was running. Of course, that meant removing the engine this afternoon (I've had practice before (((-; ). The cause is either a defective seal on the rear crankshaft flange or the shaft seal itself... I could cry. I can't even get out of the car right now! First, my boss's engine broke down, then my wife's oven...

By the way, my wife's boss's car is running again. It already has 800 km on the odometer today, and it will be getting its first oil change soon... at least that's something to look forward to!
