After a long time of tinkering, I finally got my interface for the VAG-COM working.
'After successfully starting the software and reading the error memory of the engine control unit, the display shows error code 65535, indicating a short circuit to ground, or something similar. In the error database, I found that this code means the control unit is defective. However, the engine is running perfectly, and everything else seems to be working fine. I'm not sure how to proceed with this...'
Okay, and one more thing... I also enabled the GRA, and it's working great. But what's the purpose of the reset function on the lever? Nothing happens when I use it, or maybe I just haven't connected a cable correctly?
car: Golf III, year of manufacture: 1997, engine code: AFN.
grateful for any tip

Hi
You probably mean the button labeled 'RES' when you say 'reset.'
'RES' stands for 'resume,' which means 'resumption' (I also needed some time to figure that out back then).
Normally, you can resume your previous speed (e.g., after having to brake because someone participating in the 'open North German championships in progressive parking' cut you off). This is possible if the person who parked improperly is back in the right lane.
Your error 65535 gives me some hope. I actually have an old ECU lying around with this same error. I'll probably install it soon; maybe it's still okay.
Best regards, Rudi.

Hi,
With the ASV, you can also use RES in a second function. A short press triggers what Rudi described, while a longer press (greater than 1 second) increases the speed as long as you hold RES. To decrease the speed, hold down SET. Try it out; it might work for you too. It can be quite useful when you need to adjust the GRA speed to match other cars.

'Oh, that means resum...but you have to figure that out first . It works wonderfully, though...brakes...do a resum, and it goes back to the old speed...thank you, Rudi.'
due to the error 65 blah blah blah... maybe someone else has a solution for this... it seems like Michael or someone like that might have a good understanding of it.
jan... unfortunately, the thing about reducing the speed doesn't work... even though it would be very useful... well... it's just a VW... not a Seat .

Hello,
"Error 65535 indicates that the control unit (ECU) detected a fault during a self-test. Unfortunately, this error code does not specify which area is affected. Furthermore, this error does not cause the ECU to be locked, meaning that the functions that are still working will continue to operate."
This can lead to a situation where the engine control unit (ECU) appears to function normally during operation, even though some minor functions are defective. Tschüss

Hello Michael,
Is it possible to use a 1551 or 1552 (perhaps by using a workaround or unconventional method) to determine which error caused this message?
Best regards, Rudi.

Hello Michael,
Perhaps you have an idea about the following consideration:
The power-on message of a 'standard' MSA15 looks something like this (display from a 1552):
+----------------------------------------+
|028906021BF 1.9l R4 EDC G00SG 0804 -->|
| Encoding 00002 | WSC 01269 |
+----------------------------------------+
028906021BF: Engine control unit number.
1.9L: Displacement
R4: 4-cylinder inline engine.
EDC: Electronic Diesel Control.
G: GRA active.
00: ???
SG: Manual transmission (AG: Automatic transmission)
0804: Software version, control unit.
Encoding 00002: Encoding for the control unit for the manual transmission.
WSC 01269: Operating characteristic identification from the VAG tester used to perform the last coding.
With the defective control unit, a 71 (I checked again) is output instead of '00'.
Could this be an error code, or does it perhaps contain a reference to climate control, immobilizer, etc.?
Best regards, Rudi.
