Hi!
Some time ago, there was a lot of discussion here about the summer (performance) gap. Recently, I read an article about P-oil (salad oil from Aldi/Lidl). Some people pour this into their fuel tank and then drive with it. Due to the higher viscosity of the P-oil, more fuel enters the engine. The article also explained why more fuel enters the engine, but I didn't understand the explanation. As a result, with the same energy content, the engine produces more power, but also consumes more fuel. I myself mixed in about 20% biodiesel for a while, and sure enough, I also had significantly MORE power with it. However, when running on pure biodiesel, the estimated power output was about 15 to 20% LOWER, because the biodiesel has a lower energy content. This extra power was also the reason I kept refilling the fuel tank. My engine always ran perfectly. I'm not doing it now because of the unclear compatibility of my fuel injection pump.
Perhaps the reason for the summer performance issues lies in the altered viscosity of the fuel at different temperatures. I also have the feeling that the performance decreases after driving for a longer period (i.e., after the fuel in the tank has warmed up).
What do you think about it?
Best regards,
Uwe

'Sounds very interesting. It would be interesting to see someone perform this test on a hot day (with an empty tank beforehand) and compare the results before and after, ideally using an Ulf-test.' I personally use organic fuel and I can clearly notice the difference (summer/winter), especially around 25°C.

Sounds very interesting!!
There are also many TDI racing cars that run on fuel containing 20% biodiesel.
However, I believe that, especially in common rail diesel engines, the biodiesel content will likely cause increased wear and tear on the fuel pumps. I'm not sure if I should try using 20% biodiesel in my PD.

Hi Uwe,
in the forums of
http://www.fatty-fuels.de/
and
http://www.kfz-power.de/
You can regularly find Hans Fürthbauer there, who seems to be a true expert in diesel engines and pumps.
If you're looking for well-informed answers about topics like "Dino" (presumably a specific product or company) and biodiesel, you'll probably find them most readily there. Gruß Ulf

Hi!
Thank you for the tips. However, this shouldn't be interpreted as a recommendation for biodiesel; I just wanted to offer a possible explanation for the summer performance issues. I no longer refuel with biodiesel for safety reasons.
I still fondly remember my visit to the chip tuner. After the modification, I couldn't believe how much faster my car was, and I called him to ask if he had accidentally installed a racing chip. Of course, he denied it. I just had 20% biodiesel in the tank.
Now it's running at a normal speed with Dinosaft, and I'm satisfied with that.
Best regards,
Uwe
