Hello everyone!
"Who among you is from the northern German region (Nordenham, Brake, Olberg), and could offer me advice and assistance? Or does anyone have a recommendation for a workshop in that area that provides good (and possibly affordable) service?"
My Golf IV TDI / ALH, manufactured in May 2000, with 83,000 km on the odometer, is due for a timing belt replacement soon. While I'm not completely unskilled, I don't feel comfortable doing this job myself. Furthermore, I don't have the necessary measuring tools.
By the way, I'm also experiencing the warm start problems with my car that I described earlier.
"Additionally, the engine sometimes runs unevenly at idle, for example, when I have to stop at a traffic light. However, the idle speed usually regulates itself."
Unfortunately, the car has also recently developed a problem where, in 5th gear just before reaching its maximum speed (between 180-190 km/h), the power intermittently cuts out for short periods. I suspect that either the fuel supply is being temporarily interrupted or the electrical voltage is being momentarily lost.
The problem only occurs in the 5th gear. When I shift to the 2nd or 3rd gear for testing, everything is fine!
Could you give me some advice on the last two problems, or are all three problems related to a single cause?
I will have the error codes read and replace the diesel filter!
Thank you.
Regards,
Jürgen (room 2)

Two good resolutions.
If you could also avoid making those same mistakes (referring to "Fettnäpfchen 2 + 3") in the future, that would be even better.
"Help wanted" is not what we consider to be a descriptive heading -> I will change it.
Ulf.

Hi there,
My old ALH didn't need a new timing belt until after 120,000 kilometers (approximately 74,500 miles).
Do you want to join now, or are you driving so much that these considerations need to be addressed already?
Do you still have the original fuel filter installed? If so, you should replace it. It might be almost clogged, which could cause it to start drawing in air when you're driving at full throttle, and that might be the reason for the misfires. I had a similar problem before.
Greetings.
Eike.

Hello Eike!
According to the operating permit, the timing belt replacement for the ALH engine manufactured in 2000 must be performed no later than 90,000 kilometers (approximately 56,000 miles).
I didn't want to wait that long, though, because I had problems with my T4 two years ago. The timing belt was supposed to be replaced at 120,000 km. Unfortunately, the timing belt broke at a mileage of approximately 84,000 km in Italy. The vehicle was only five years old, and Volkswagen refused to offer any goodwill compensation because of this.
That's why I won't wait that long for a golf game!
By the way, the problems with high-speed performance (stuttering) are gone. I replaced the diesel filter today. It seems that the car wasn't getting enough diesel under full load in 5th gear and was instead drawing in air.
Regards,
Room 2.
