Hello,
I own a Golf IV TDI PD with 74 kW. I would now like to upgrade to the Garrett turbocharger from the 130 hp TDI or even the 150 hp TDI.
Does anyone happen to know if the VNT17 (130 HP TDI) or VNT20 (150 HP TDI) turbochargers will fit on the exhaust manifold of my 100 HP TDI PD engine? Is it possible to install them without any major modifications?
I would be grateful for any information.

Hmmm...

Think very carefully about what you're actually planning to do, and what the turbocharger replacement will achieve and what it's supposed to achieve.

Replacing the turbocharger with a larger, more powerful one is intended to increase the boost pressure.
A corresponding increase in the injection quantity is therefore inevitable!
I'm only interested in the mechanical limitations of a conversion.

It's already clear...

So, you are modifying the control unit icon_wink.gif.

Why don't you check the datasheets for the VNT-15 or VNT-17? You might not need to make any modifications at all...

'Ladedruck' doesn't directly have anything to do with the size of the turbocharger...
A truck turbocharger would also not be regulated to exceed 0.9 bar, and a turbocharger doesn't care about an absolute pressure sensor icon_wink.gif.

IIRC, the VNT-20 doesn't fit.
If you're going for extreme tuning (which you must be, otherwise you wouldn't want to change the turbocharger), don't forget the pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, and bearings.

Since I have a 74 kW PD TDI engine, I believe I already have the Garrett VNT 15 turbocharger. If I were to replace it with a VNT 17 turbocharger, for example, from a 130 PS model, and simultaneously increase the boost pressure to approximately 1.3 bar, I would need to adjust the fuel injection quantity in the engine's mapping accordingly.
However, I'm also concerned about whether the fuel injection elements in my car are sufficient. For example, does the 110kW TDI PD engine have different fuel injection elements than mine? I suspect it does. Furthermore, I'm also very worried about the thermal management of the engine. I also need to consider the flywheel, clutch, bearings, connecting rods, etc.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work! But if you do it right...

'Why don't you sell the 74 kW car and buy a different one?'
It wouldn't actually be that much more expensive, would it?

greetings

Here's the translation:

'Something else that's also important here is that the larger turbocharger produces less heat. Just think about how much heat a VNT-15 generates at 1.1 bar... The VNT-17, at the same pressure, is almost a third 'cooler' (haha) than the VNT-15. So, don't let anything stop you from installing a VNT-17... I know it works, I have one in mine (haha)... gotcha.'

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you please provide the text you would like me to translate?

chris

P.S. And believe me, you won't notice any turbo lag because the larger impeller generates the pressure from below just as quickly as the VNT-15, thanks to the faster spool-up. So, it's negligible.

Sounds cool!!
What was your starting machine?
Also, a pump nozzle or a VE injection system?
Verzähl mal über den Umbau hast du grobe änderungen vornehmen müssen? Woher hast du den Turbo? Was Do you have power?
