Hello,
I have the following problem with my Audi TDI 81 kW, manufactured in 02/1998, which has an automatic transmission:
When the switch is in position "D", the automatic transmission no longer shifts from 2nd to 3rd or 4th gear. Instead, it seems to only stay in 3rd gear. Is it possible to manually shift from 1st to 3rd gear using the shift knob? The instrument cluster does not display any warning lights indicating a fault mode. A few weeks ago, while driving on the highway with five people in the car and going uphill, I noticed that the car seemed to be lacking power. Even though the accelerator pedal was fully depressed, there was no more power available.
What could be the cause of the problem? Is it a mechanical issue (e.g., the transmission), an electrical control unit, or a sensor?
Regards,
Stefan.

First, read the error codes.
It seems like the car is in a kind of emergency mode, which should only allow you to drive it to the workshop.
You can find out the possible causes yourself using our powerful search function.
Best regards, Georg.

The problem has now been solved. A cable connection to the transmission was defective, likely damaged by a rodent.
Regards,
Stefan.
