Is there a way to disable the automatic windshield wiper function on my Audi A4 8E, manufactured in 2003?

Best regards,

Perhaps this will be helpful. It's for a Skoda, but the control units are probably not too different, and maybe the function can also be found in the A4 control unit.

The values from the Fabia cannot be transferred at this point.
The only thing that comes to mind right now would be to completely disable the rain/light sensor, but that's not really the point.

When I heard about the "one-swipe" function, I thought it was a great idea, especially since I often have to wipe the windshield one more time after using the automatic car wash. Please explain what bothers you about it.

For example, I have a rain sensor in my Golf that I thought was a great feature when I bought the car. However, it's become so annoying that deactivating it would likely be beneficial for me. The auto-dimming rearview mirror, on the other hand, is something I still consider to be a very good feature in this package.

[Edit Rainer K. ...] The A4 8E does not have a rain sensor; the post-wipe (after the windshield washer fluid spray) is controlled by a simple relay. Therefore, it cannot be deactivated.

What the light sensor has to do with mirror dimming/coming-home functions, etc... fascinating. icon_wink.gif

Julian, I just wanted to provide some context for my question, that's all. I understand that it might not seem directly related, but my text should make it clear that Volkswagen's package policy always includes the rain sensor in the interior rearview mirror. We've already discussed how that particular component doesn't work very well.

I also don't think my answer offered any solutions, but rather raised the question of what is most annoying. Nothing more, nothing less.
Excuse me. icon_sad.gif

P.S. The "coming home" / "leaving home" function was never available in an original Golf 1J, not for money or for any amount of persuasion.

You don't need to apologize for that!

Well, the only thing you can come up with is also wrong.

Nice tone, or just unfortunate word choice?! icon_confused.gif

Yes, you are correct about the 8E2/8E5 models, but starting with the facelift (8EC/8ED) models, a combined rain/light sensor is installed.

What the light sensor has to do with mirror dimming/coming-home functions, etc... fascinating. icon_wink.gif

There's a lot involved, especially with facelift models. You can see how it all works very well by looking at the Golf 5, but I don't want to start any arguments here.
'Looking back, I agree with you that this function should be controlled separately from the sensor, but often it's the case that it only becomes active in conjunction with the sensor.'

What kind of sausage would they like? icon_smile.gif

Above, it clearly states 'Bj 03,' which means it's a model year 2003. Consequently, it's a non-facelift 8E, belonging to the B6 series, and not the B7 series. icon_smile.gif

Yep, my mistake, no question.

Hello Julian,

The wiper function in the A4 8E is controlled by the body control module, so it's not as simple as using a relay.

@leolotus

Which adaptation channels are available in your vehicle's onboard computer (range 001-025)?

The wiper function in the A4 8E is controlled by the body control module, so there's no simple relay involved.

You are correct, it has been integrated into the body control module J519. However, the circuit board does not switch more than <32A, so it is still switched via a relay, but the control is handled by J519. icon_smile.gif

Sorry, Julian.

That's wrong again.

The body control module directly controls the wiper motor, meaning that a current of 32A actually flows through the control module.
I know that because my employer manufactures the Bornetz control unit, which is also called an Intelligent Load/Power Module (ILM).

The wiping process is configured in the software, and to my knowledge, there's no way to adjust it other than through the adjustment channels.

The wiping process is configured in the SW, and to my knowledge, there's nothing that can be done about it except through customization channels.

Let's just say, I know that it can be disabled on the new 8EC/8ED models via adaptation channel 013.

STG 09 (Bordnetz) auswählen
STG Anpassung -> Funktion 10

-> Kanal 013 (Wischereinstellungen)
Standardwert: 115

+001 - V-Rückschaltung
+002 - Kurzschlussüberwachung an Plus
+004 - Regensensor aktiv
+008 - Nachwischen nach Waschen (Tropfen-/Tränenwischen)
+016 - Geschwindigkeits abhängig bei Intervall
+032 - Scheinwerferreinigungsanlage (SRA) aktiv
+064 - Rückfahr-Wischen aktiv

Source: http://de.openobd.org/audi/a4_8ec.htm#09

It is now questionable to what extent this is possible with an 8E2/8E5, which is why my specific question concerns the available adjustment channels. icon_twisted.gif
