regarding the functionality:

The way it works on the chassis can be understood.

By attaching it to a suitable location, as determined by the electro-hydro-pneumatic cubic space-centered formula, the vehicle's handling characteristics change.
Perhaps this method can also prevent corrosion by using galvanic currents, similar to how it's done on ships, but instead with sacrificial capacitors.
