Hello!

I have a G3 with an 81 kW (AFN) engine - my first diesel - and I've noticed that the engine braking effect is significantly weaker than it was in my previous gasoline cars.
I previously thought it was the opposite. There might be a defect, or it could be a normal technical reason (e.g., related to the turbo). I haven't checked the compression, but I haven't experienced any performance issues.

Greetings, Klausel.

Don't worry, the TDIs have a 'poor engine braking' characteristic, so everything is fine. Diesel engines don't have a throttle valve and don't create negative pressure during coasting. icon_biggrin.gif

Um, that's not entirely correct. TDIs have significantly longer gear ratios compared to gasoline engines, which is why the diesel's "supposedly" weaker engine braking effect. But don't worry, it's not a sign of an engine defect.

Best regards,
Uwe.

I can't really complain, this case rolls really easily, just like my old 'grandpa-style' case.

but a so-called 'stauklappen-bremse' (aka engine brake) doesn't sound bad at all in a truck... I wonder how that would sound on a TDI? icon_cool.gif

Hi Gremlin,

Check out www.papmahl.de.
They offer a type of engine brake for the TDI.

Greetings,
Thomas.
