They're exaggerating a bit too: Covering it up after only a few hours of rest! That's nonsense. RME oxidizes only to a very small extent, or over months. But otherwise, the realization that only bad RME damages the engine is confirmed. This is also confirmed by the following very interesting article (comparison of RME and DK in a 1.9 TD engine).

Well... great article... it doesn't contain anything that Bosch doesn't also write.

'This article doesn't mention anything about the durability of fuel injection pumps when operating on biodiesel.'

'It was also suspected that changing the injection pressures at the injector nozzle would have an effect. 'An increase in overall efficiency of 1%.' Of course, RME has completely different material properties than diesel and leads to a significant increase in pressure at the injector nozzle, which it may not always be able to handle without damage.'

After reading through all these papers, I've come to the following conclusions:

- RME is chemically unstable and prone to decomposition if stored improperly. The resulting products are 'harmful' to precision high-pressure hydraulics.
'Storage' begins when the product leaves the production facility and is not transparent.

- Damage to fuel injection pumps is caused by water hammer, cavitation, and corrosion.
RME may contain dissolved water and dissolved gases. The former can cause corrosion and water hammer, while the latter can cause cavitation damage.
Corrosion can also be caused by the molecularly bound oxygen in RME, leading to chemical instability.

At least here, specific attempts and numbers are described.

The introduction clearly states that the long-term durability of the engines (including fuel injection pumps) when operating on RME is considered to be assured, provided that the RME meets the relevant standards.
