Hello everyone,
It's just heartbreaking. This morning, as I was cheerfully whistling while overtaking a van on my way to work, I realized that after fourth gear, there was no fifth gear.
I just took a look, even though I actually don't know much about transmissions and gearboxes...
Okay, so: When I push the lever on the gearbox down, I can easily select the first, second, and reverse gears. But when I pull it up, it gets stuck. It's as if there are only four gears available.
GKB should actually be CTN.
What are the chances, in your opinion, that I need a new transmission? Or could it be something simple and inexpensive, surprisingly?
I know that it's difficult to do this remotely. But if I take my car to our VAG dealership, even just saying "good morning" will cost me 5 euros. Gruß Schneemann

Hello.
Mine probably had the same number (233333) at the same time!
'First of all, I have no idea either!'
After I was no longer able to shift some of the gears, I had a diagnostic test drive, and the diagnosis I received was: 'Synchronous rings are worn out,' 'It's not worth repairing, get a transmission from a junkyard, a 02A or similar.'
Anyway, that wasn't the problem I had. After the spring engine flush, it seemed like the mechanics were prone to seizing, presumably because all the oil had been flushed out.
Perhaps you could try applying some grease to the mechanism, or maybe something a bit thinner like gun oil, and see if that helps it work properly again.
Greetings.

Thanks for the helpful tip. I actually cleaned the engine just recently to make sure the TÜV (technical inspection) wouldn't have any issues. I just tried using some spray lubricant, let it sit, and lo and behold, it's still a bit stiff, but IT'S BACK!
Thank you, and happy holidays to everyone. Gruß Schneemann

I've had similar experiences before. Whether it's engine cleaning or anything else, I prefer not to do it. It only seems to be worth it if you want to get rid of your car.

With buses, the "egg cup" (the connection between the transmission and the linkage) is often a weak point. Unfortunately, this part is made of aluminum and is therefore prone to wear and tear.
