Hello, especially Michael II.
In the error database under "Golf/Bora combination instrument 2000," the "adaptation" of the fuel consumption display is described.
My questions:
Does the same apply to the 2001 Ibiza and the 2000 Octavia TDI, or are there any differences?
Does anyone know which buttons on VAGCOM lead to the relevant menu items? Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf,
It should work in the same way as it does with Volkswagen.
Where exactly are you experiencing problems with the diagnostic system? Tschüss

Hi Ulf,
How inaccurate is the speedometer in your Ibiza?
My suspicion, based on observations and calculations, is that the display does not account for standstill times, i.e., engine idling. In city traffic, the displayed average consumption is usually 0.2...0.4 l/100 km lower than the calculated value (which makes sense since you often stop at traffic lights), while on the highway, it has always been perfectly accurate (i.e., fill up the tank, drive until empty, and then fill up again).
Therefore, I believe this is fundamentally an issue, and adaptation is unlikely to change it.
If you manage to achieve something there, I would be very interested.
Best regards,
January. 1Z5 CFHF / AHB H4D

Hi,
My "new" one also has that display that never works properly and it's lying.
It actually shows 1 liter per 100 km less than the actual consumption.
Okay, gib mir den deutschen Text, den du übersetzt haben möchtest.
"360 km with a caravan + 300 km solo, according to the display 6.2 L/100km, actual consumption 7.2 L/100km."
366 km driven in the motorhome today, despite the storm. Fuel consumption: 10.1 L/100km (calculated), actually 11.1 L/100km (!!!!).
I probably need to adjust my ad as well.
By the way, I didn't know until today that the TDI engine could consume this much fuel! However, it was often so windy that I had to shift into fourth gear going downhill (!!!) just to avoid slowing down. Gruß Bertil

Hi Michael,
I haven't encountered any specific :oops:problems yet, but I plan to try it on a colleague's Octavia soon – which I haven't had access to on a laptop before.
And I wanted to find out in advance what might need to be considered.
@ Jan :
Your observation that the long-distance setting results in a correct display also aligns with our experiences with the ALH system.
I haven't asked my wife yet if she wants a more precise display for the predominantly short-range trips... probably not }. Gruß Ulf

Hello,
In my A4 AFN, the idle speed is also taken into account. You can test this by resetting the average fuel consumption display while driving, driving a short distance further, and then stopping. In any case, I observe that the average value then increases.
It's certainly questionable just how accurate this is, because the measured injection time in low load conditions may not necessarily correspond to the actual injection time.
By the way, I'm also having a problem with the fuel consumption. It was a gradual process. Currently, it's about 0.5 liters per 100km too low, whether in city or highway driving. I suspect it's due to worn-out injectors that are either dripping fuel or letting through more diesel than they should.
After 223,000 km, I'm going to get some new ones and then I hope that first, the soot buildup disappears when driving at full throttle, and second, maybe the fuel consumption will be correct again.
If that works out, I'll get back to you.
Best regards,
Certainly! Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hello everyone,
I forgot to mention that in my previous post.
With the new nozzles, the fuel consumption is now slightly higher than it was before. Unfortunately, it still doesn't match the actual value, but it has improved.
Can the nozzles allow more diesel to pass through at high pressure than when they are new? Do the holes become larger over time?

Short and concise answer: Yes.
The holes become slightly larger due to abrasive wear. However, a worse problem is that the springs in the nozzles weaken, causing them to open earlier than they should. Gruß Bertil

Hi,
That makes sense.
While it may not directly relate to the fuel injectors, all the springs are likely wearing out in this case, from the suspension to the valve springs. It would therefore make sense to replace everything gradually over time.
The new fuel injectors have definitely made a positive difference. Now the question is whether it's worth replacing other similar "wear and tear" parts and how noticeable the improvement will be.
Greetings,
Thomas. -----------------------------------------------------
