Hi,

My car is completely different after the PD element repair.

I had a power test done previously: 118.5 horsepower, including correction, and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.8 seconds!

After the repair, I feel like the car is performing worse than before, but I'm faster on all the hills or test tracks. The ULF DZR time is now 7.5 seconds.

I simply can't (or don't want to) believe that my car is supposed to have so much power.

Are there similar experiences shared in this forum?

The feeling that the car is running worse than before is due to the fact that it no longer reacts as abruptly as it used to.

Hi Bertil!

Please tell me what percentage of extra power you had to enter into Ulf's DZR so that the calculated time was the same as your measured time.

Then we would finally know exactly how the DZR (direct-injection turbocharger) works. The 118.5 horsepower figure was probably corrected properly (presumably from a dynamometer).
Best regards,
Ernst.

Hi Ernst,

Are you sure about that?

AFAIK, a common mistake in TDI certifications is to apply the "thin air" adjustment for altitude and potentially low-pressure areas to the TDI certification, even though it's not necessary up to moderate altitudes.
And suddenly, on paper, the TDI engine has 5 or 10 horsepower more than it actually does...

@BertilViewing profile: Bertil: If your test stand protocol says anything about that, I (and perhaps others?) would be curious icon_rolleyes.gif.

Hi Ernst,

Power output according to DZR: 118.79 hp!

Original engine power at 4,000 rpm: 74.
Torque at 2000 rpm: -240.
Maximum speed (original): - 188.
Engine power at maximum speed (original): -74.
Actual vehicle weight: 1500.
Speed at 2,000 rpm (approximate: speedometer reading - 5%) - - 50.
Outdoor temperature: -10 degrees.
Air pressure: -990.
Engine Performance (tuning, etc.) - 17
Motor power reduction (due to defects, etc.) - 0.
Friction losses, transmission + tires: -12.
Headwind -0
Tailwind - 0.
Slope: -0
Slope: -0

@ulfViewing profile: ulf,

Yes, the dynamometer readings (values) have been correctly adjusted.
Unfortunately, I am not allowed to take the protocol with me because it is from a testing facility in a school, and they are no longer allowed to release these documents (for whatever reason). icon_sad.gif
By the way, the measuring device is not calibrated!!! The value could (but doesn't necessarily) be significantly off, but the differential pressure reading indicates the same.

Hi Bertil.

Both times, it produced around 118 horsepower instead of the advertised 100. If the AXR engine consistently delivers this much power, Volkswagen should really receive a warning from insurance companies or some other authority again.

In the DZR (Dynamic Resonance Test), the weight and starting speed at 2000 rpm play a very important role. How reliable are the values you are using, and how did you determine them?

Friction losses, transmission + tires: -12.
Headwind -0
Tailwind -0
Slope: -0
Slope: -0

That definitely sounds like the old DZR.

In the new version, the individual losses are calculated differently. And you no longer have to estimate the gradient; instead, you only need to let the vehicle roll down once from 80-70 km/h (on the same stretch of road) and determine the time. (I think it works best on a slight incline).

I think the new version is 5% cheaper, but give it a try.
Okay, did you already enter the torque curve? Because the automatic calculation is quite inaccurate for the PD curve. (Or have I not understood something correctly, Ulf?)
Best regards, Ernst.

Hi!

"My AHF engine, with 110 horsepower and 235 Nm of torque, once measured a whopping 281 Nm on a Bosch dynamometer. The dynamometer only displayed the torque value; you had to calculate the horsepower yourself. However, because the torque dropped dramatically above 3,000 RPM (due to a faulty mass airflow sensor), I didn't even bother calculating the maximum horsepower."

Best regards,
Uwe.

Hi Ernst,

You are right - } if } the 100 hp PD actually has the torque plateau extending over a few hundred rpm, as described in your driving data calculator.
Then, his actual average torque is higher than the torque calculated using the DZR (Dynamic Torque Ratio), resulting in an incorrect target timing value, which indicates excessive power output.

Okay, that's the old DZR (differential pressure regulator). I took the measurement in both directions of travel, and the value was the same. However, I'm certain that the gradient is 0 because the route follows a contour line on a 1:25,000 map.

Okay, one more thing: I just weighed the car... and this is shocking -- 1545 kg! -- which is even more than what's registered.

Let's say the actual power output is between 110 and 115 horsepower (more likely 110), which is still quite a lot, and I have to agree with Ulf that the insurance companies are right to issue a warning.

Navigation system - it absolutely must be accurate, otherwise the distance calculation will be way off, and the system will end up driving around in the middle of nowhere!

Also, another thing: An Audi A3 TDI with 110 horsepower can't keep up with me on hills, and it's slightly faster in the drag race test (but it's also significantly lighter!).

I didn't adjust the torque to my car; I simply used the value that was already available.

I didn't adjust the torque to fit my car - I just used what was available.

With the new weight, the correct torque curve, and the adjusted efficiency values, your estimate of 110 horsepower is likely to be quite accurate.
And then there's the impressive torque plateau of the 100 hp PD engine.
I have to say, you really got a great engine there.
Best regards,
Ernst.

1.240 kg empty (verified by weighing!).

"Thank you, I believe that too."
I simply couldn't believe that the DZR values were 2 seconds better compared to my "old" G3 1Z.

I would be interested in seeing some real-world DZR (Dynamic Range Zoom) values from other PD (possibly referring to a specific product or model) models for comparison.

Thanks, but that's a 300kg difference! Does the price include the driver? When my vehicle was weighed, the driver (82kg) was included!

@bertil

'Your Golf is heavier than my Passat. Mine weighed 1520 kg in the summer, with the driver and half a tank of fuel! (We had it weighed for the 100 km/h speed limit with a caravan). How is that possible? According to the original registration documents, it should only weigh 1200 kg! I almost had a heart attack, and I had already resigned myself to not being able to reach 100 km/h with the caravan!'

Hi Joerg,

"My Golf3 is supposed to weigh 1195 kg according to the registration document, but in reality, with the driver, it weighed 1350 or 1375 kg. The Golf4 has even more weight (the "Alleselektrisch" brand). I would have gotten the 100 km/h approval for the G3 if I had weighed it (but it didn't have ABS). With the G4, the registered empty weight is already so high that it's not a problem to get a 100 km/h approval, but I'm not sure..."
"Curb weight of the G4 (non-estate version): 1291 kg. The estate version is approximately 90 kg heavier (according to the owner's manual)."

"Well, it's just an Audi..."
The 1,240 kg weight is correct. I measured it without a driver and with a half-full tank.
It doesn't have any special features, just air conditioning. It's a 2-door model.

Uwe
