MJ '98 - TDI 66/81 kW AFN
Vehicle appears sluggish in comparison to vehicles from the 1997 model year.
Partially, the maximum speed is being challenged.
Cause:
Vehicles manufactured in 1998 fall within the performance tolerance range in the middle. The summation of manufacturing tolerances from the fuel injection system, engine, and vehicle can – in unfavorable configurations in individual cases – lead to the vehicle's performance, such as top speed, acceleration, and elasticity, being in the lower, but still permissible, tolerance range.
Specifically for drivers who have the opportunity for a comparable assessment, this can create the impression that the vehicle meets the specified requirements.
not met.
Follow-up inspections on vehicles that had previously raised concerns have shown, under normal testing conditions (test area), that the requirements are met.
Procedure:
Checking the performance of the disputed vehicle in the following manner:
No optional extras that affect speed (for the
Example: extreme wide tires, mud flaps, and deflectors on the
Sunroof).
Measurement on a flat, dry surface with moderate wind, outdoor temperature >= 15°C (using a stopwatch!).
Free measurement distance without influence from other vehicles (wind-
shadow!).
To account for the wind's influence during measurement, the measurement must also be performed in the opposite direction, followed by averaging (perform several measurements of this type to eliminate measurement errors).
- Vehicle mileage >= 5,000 km.
- Engine is warmed up (Oil temperature 80 - 90 °C).
- Consider the speed limit (approximately + 3 km/h).
