Okay, so there's someone here who has done this before, but only with vehicles manufactured up to the year 1998. 'That's absolutely no problem; companies like VDO and Motometer specifically have a programming connector on the back (4-pin).'

From my experience, it's pointless to do this on newer cars, because, as I've mentioned before, it only works up to a mileage of around 100 km. It's intended for new cars that already have a few kilometers on them from transport, inspection, etc., and then have the mileage reset. When I was still a VAG apprentice, I once messed around with a speedometer like that because I was curious, but unfortunately, I didn't know back then that it only worked up to 100 km. I thought it was quite funny to set the speedometer to 99999 on a new Lupo, but unfortunately, the reset function didn't work. 'I got a flat tire, and back then I needed a new combination instrument. Thankfully, I was a favorite apprentice, so the trouble was only moderate, and I didn't have to pay for it myself.'
Purely logically, it should still be possible, as the data must be stored somewhere, presumably on some kind of chip or similar. Eproms are known to be relatively easy to read and manipulate.

Let's see if anyone can figure this out. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a current AI to test it with myself.

Best regards, Dr. Braun.

I can't imagine that. There has to be a way to do it. Those guys whose ads you see in every newspaper somehow manage to make it work... It probably requires a bit more than just a small program from eBay.
@dr_braun: That thing about the Lupo is funny, could have happened to me too... Does the Lupo only have a 5-digit mileage reading? They could have simply driven one more kilometer, then they would have been back at 00000.

Neeee, when it reaches over 999,999, 'Maximum Overkill' is triggered, and a signal is sent to VW, and then red balloons fall from the sky everywhere, and strange clowns appear from everywhere, making noise with horns and creating a ruckus icon_wink.gif.

...or the car might just explode.

Is there any truth to the rumor that if you've driven 1 million kilometers and can prove it, Volkswagen will give you a new car? A tall tale, right?

Is there any truth to the rumor that if you've driven 1 million kilometers and can prove it, Volkswagen will give you a new car? A nursery rhyme, or what?

'I guess that's how it is! I saw a post a while ago about a Beetle owner who had driven it for over 900,000 km. The car had been damaged in an accident (not the owner's fault). Through a lot of painstaking work, the Beetle was rebuilt to surpass the magical 1 million km mark, in order to claim the 'bonus' or reward.'
I think there might be something to it!

Hi Joerg,

That wasn't a Beetle, but a Golf 1 from 1981, and the car is still running.
VW's Zeitauto division has already expressed interest in the vehicle.

Hmmm... I can imagine that would be difficult, especially with a Volkswagen Beetle.
Not in terms of the technical specifications, but in terms of verifiable mileage. They all only have counters that go up to 99,999.
That's why you often see ads for used cars like this: "Selling a VW Beetle, year 1964, with 43,875 km."
Well, believe it if you want.

But it could be true. I've also heard a story about a Golf 2.

But let's get back to the topic.
Has anyone managed to correct the mileage?

...I would have to drive my TDI for 33 years...

Would there be much of the original A3 left? Well, maybe the body, the warning triangle, and the rear seat bench icon_smile.gif.

I once had a Passat 1.6D with approximately 260,000 + 280,000 (approximately) km on the odometer. I only noticed the 280,000 (approximately) km after driving it for a long time, because I was surprised that so many things that were supposedly indestructible were breaking down. There it actually was in the service booklet: "new speedometer installed on..." icon_redface.gif
That thing was definitely a wreck.
Well, it was cheap for what it was. The only frustrating thing was the constant repairs and the associated costs, which were significantly higher than the purchase price.
Back then, I learned: you can make something new out of an old motorcycle, but not out of an old car.

Best regards, Rainer.

Well, whoever believes that.

There are two of that type around here.
Here's another Opel Rekord A.
They'll be moved around the city sometime this summer, and that will be it.
The record belongs to a very old lady, and it hasn't been played in a long time.

They definitely have very low mileage. My mechanic has been servicing these vehicles since they were new. Experienced mechanics definitely have a lot of advantages...

I'd be glad to hear that.

But those little Gusto pieces aren't really something that's sold.
Unfortunately.

I really don't want to revive such an old topic, but I want to install a used S6 speedometer (C4) in my A6 C4 and then adjust the mileage to match the current mileage. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything yet.
Best regards,
Martin

In Germany, this topic (officially) is no longer an issue. In principle, it is forbidden to manipulate or adjust speedometers. A snippet:

According to § 22a, the following § 22b is inserted:

Misuse of distance counters and speed limiters.

(1) Anyone who does the following shall be punished with imprisonment for up to one year or with a fine:

The measurement of a mileage counter installed in a motor vehicle is falsified if the result of the measurement is influenced by manipulating the device or the measurement process.

2. renders the proper function of a speed limiter installed in a motor vehicle inoperative or impairs its function by interfering with the device;

3. prepares for a criminal offense as defined in numbers 1 or 2 by creating, acquiring, selling, or transferring computer programs designed to commit such an offense.

Thank you for the information. I'm not familiar with the legal situation in Austria, but there are still enough people who offer mileage adjustments. However, I find it too annoying to pay 50 euros just to have the mileage correct. If I had bought it originally, I would get an entry in the service booklet, but that's also a matter of money icon_smile.gif.
Best regards,
Martin

Anyone who carefully reads section 22b will realize that it refers to built-in speedometers, and that altering the distance counter of these speedometers prevents the actual mileage of a vehicle from being accurately recorded.

In the event of a repair, or alternatively, Replacing the speedometer with a new or used part and restoring the original vehicle mileage.
In my opinion, this section 22b will not be upheld and does not constitute a criminal offense.
because doing so would not prevent the manipulation of a vehicle's mileage.

The question is, how do you plan to adjust the modified speedometer without violating paragraph 3?
to violate...

Okay, so basically - forget about it.

I consider the matter to be closed.
