Hello,
I'm having a problem with my Golf IV with an AKL engine (1.6 liters, 74 kW) from 1999. It's a gasoline engine, but maybe someone can still help me.
I own a VAG-Com diagnostic tester kit and I connected it to the car because of some issues. The car sometimes stalls when idling, and occasionally it misfires and has very little torque. Everything is normal during the cold start and for the next 10 minutes, but then the problems I described appear. The intake system should be airtight; I haven't been able to detect any leaks, and the spark plug cables are also okay.
After that, I connected the tester.
While the units for each field are identifiable in the measurement values of the different groups, it's not clear what each measurement represents. Perhaps someone can help me determine if there is a corresponding decoding table available.
I am particularly interested in the following values.
Group 1, Field 3 and Field 4. For Field 3, only one voltage is specified. This voltage fluctuates significantly between 0.1 and 0.78 V. What is this voltage (where was it measured)?
Field 4 in Group 1 is a binary value that also changes significantly, but I can't associate it with any specific function.
Furthermore, I have a question regarding fields 2 of group 2 and 3. Both likely refer to the actual air mass due to the unit "mg/stroke." Therefore, the two values should ideally be identical. However, they are not always the same. I recorded the values using the VAG Scope, and there were sometimes significant differences and jumps in the value of group 3, field 2, especially during acceleration, while the value of group 2, field 2, remained plausible. There are no error codes, or only "implausible RPM" errors.
Does anyone have any idea what these fields mean, or what the problem with the car might be (mass airflow sensor, throttle body, oxygen sensor, crankshaft sensor)? I don't want to replace all the components, but if possible, I only want to replace the faulty one.
Best regards, Sven.

Hello Sven,
Could you please share the VAG part number of your engine control unit?
Best regards, Rainer.

I don't have the number of the control unit in my head right now. I'll have to check it again later this evening. It was a Simos control unit.
Best regards, Sven.

Okay, I've now finished reading that.
Vag number: 06A 906 019 AK
Component: 1.6L 2V/R4 Simos HS2597
Soft Coding: 04000
Shop: WSC 00028
Nice that you want to check it out.
Then there was an error code: 00513, Engine Speed sensor G28, 27-10, Implausible signal, intermittent, and sometimes no signal.
So, I took a closer look at this crankshaft speed sensor. When warm, it measures 1080 ohms, and when cold, it's 800 ohms. I think that's a bit too high a resistance for the Hall sensor coil. Can someone tell me what the acceptable resistance range (specified value) should be? Otherwise, I'll just replace the part; it probably isn't that expensive.
What surprises me is that the speed is still being displayed despite the error mentioned above. Is there another sensor involved, or is the value being calculated based on other parameters?
Thank you and best regards,
Sven.

Hello Sven,
The 409.1 distribution in the store has label files for your STG; simply download them from your customer account.
http://shop.dieselschrauber.de/support-downloads.php
If your hardware only supports VAG-COM 311.2, you will only be able to use the...
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/label-files/06A-906-019-AEH.lbl
Download it and save it as a file named "06A-906-019-AK.lbl" in the "Labels" folder of your VAG-COM installation directory.
The file might also be available in German; just take a look.
Is the sensor's mounting position correct, or can it be adjusted to achieve a more stable signal?
Best regards, Rainer.

Sure, here's the translation:
"One more question:"
What is the specified resistance value between the yellow and white wires of the engine speed sensor (G28)? I'm getting 800 ohms when cold and 1080 ohms when warm. Are these values still within the acceptable range, or should I replace the sensor?
Best regards, Sven.

Hi Sven,
Around 1 kOhm is, AFAIK, OK. It's not a Hall sensor, but a "real" coil. Gruß Ulf
