If you still want to go through with this scheme, here's a small tip:

You'll have better access from below; simply remove the plastic undertray (4 Allen screws in the wheel wells, 2-3 hex screws).

I also have a [type of item], but it's a 1Z model, and the rod should be in roughly the same position! Maybe this will help...

You are right, the frame and can are almost exactly the same (my father has a 1Z). However, the plastic tray really becomes annoying over time because you have to remove it for even the smallest tasks. This bothers me the most because I don't have a pit or lift. I only have small ramps to get the vehicle a little higher in the front . But now, after the heating up on the track, I would say that the VTG is working noticeably better again (the question is, for how long), and the turbo misfires are also almost gone .
By the way: I went to the mechanic today for an X-ray of the ESDs (Electronic Stability Devices), and he told me that they haven't done that in a long time, but instead just replace them completely. He only referred me to the Bosch service center, which still does that (thankfully ).

Luckily, in my case, it was only the adjustment lever or the joint, because that's all I lubricated.
