Post03-11-2006, 16:06    Subject: Blue smoke at 2800-3000 RPM: What could it be? Quote

Hello everyone,
"When I slowly increase the RPM of my engine at idle, it starts to smoke blue at 2800 RPM, and at the same time, it starts to make a slight knocking sound (like a puffing, which is hard to describe). If you hold the RPM, the blue smoke gets stronger. When the RPM exceeds 3000, it stops, and the engine revs up very quickly. What could this be? Could it be the crankcase ventilation system? Almost nothing is coming out of the hose directly connected to the crankcase! There's pulsating coming from the valve cover. Is there a valve located at the bottom of the crankcase, or is it just a flange where the hose is attached?"

Greetings.
Reuselkopp.

The AGR (Abgasrückführung system) only activates at 3200 RPM.

But what about the needle injector?

What do the service records say when he starts working with the circus?

Hello Dieselmartin,
The AGR valve is closing, but mine has been defective for a long time icon_smile.gif. I've had this problem for a while, and I always thought it was due to air in the diesel line. Now that it's not drawing in air, it's still there, unfortunately. I've already looked at the short-term fuel trim values, and there was nothing unusual. I think I even adjusted them here before. Needle lift sensor... hmm... It was actually replaced about 30,000 km ago. However, it was from eBay. If it were the needle lift sensor, you should be able to see it in the short-term fuel trim values. Testing the needle lift sensor alone is awkward anyway; how are you supposed to give it gas and tap the injector at the same time? What a pain! Can't you adjust and hold the RPM using VAG-Com?

Is it not possible to adjust and maintain the RPM using VAG-Com?

Noe, unfortunately not. You still need someone to help with that.

If the system bus (SB) operates very quickly, it may not be possible to detect this from the slow logs. See the Shannon theorem.

Place a piece of wood or similar material between the driver's seat and the accelerator pedal, and then find the correct engine speed.

Hi,
"This weekend, I drove about 1000 km and didn't notice any coolant or oil leaks. While driving, you don't notice anything about the blue smoke. You only see it again when you rev the engine while the car is stationary. It's all very strange. I suspect it might be related to the turbocharger. Does anyone have any other ideas?"

Hello,
For me, it was the catalytic converter. Everything worked without noticeable oil consumption. When I slightly released the accelerator at 3000 RPM and then slowly pressed it again, I didn't see any smoke in the rearview mirror.

Regards,
René.

Hello,
And what exactly did you swap out? Just the oil separator on the camshaft cover, or something else as well?

Regards,
Reuselkopp.

I suspect René_S is talking about his AKN (presumably a specific type of engine or system). It has a different KGE (likely referring to a component or system), which sometimes malfunctions. In such cases, the "filter" is replaced with a cyclone separator. To determine this, you measure the pressure in the KGE using the oil dipstick. If you had a V6 engine, this would be very likely.

I'm not sure if that's even applicable to your vehicle.
