Hello,
Before I get beaten up here: I've searched extensively for various terms, but I haven't found anything.
It's about our A4 TDI with 96 kW, manufactured in October 2001, and currently with 75,000 km on the odometer.
I once removed the timing belt cover to take a look at the condition of the belt.
The rubber appears slightly greasy, and small hairline cracks are visible on the belt. It measures 29.8mm in width.
'How wide is the new one, and where is the wear limit?'
Are small cracks normal at a certain age?
Is a premature change necessary?
Thank you very much.
Sure, here's the translation:
'MFG' is an abbreviation for 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which translates to 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards' in English. |

What about the tension? I wouldn't worry too much about tiny cracks. Depending on the planned mileage, I might recommend changing them sooner.
We've had timing belt photos here before, but I'm afraid I can't tell you what the wear indicator looks like. |

Admittedly, it's difficult to find and initially only applies to the AJM. However, the ZR width is, as far as I know, the same for all (4-cylinder) PD engines, and therefore the sealing dimension should also apply to the 96kW models. Gruß Ulf

Hm, since you're responding so quickly:
Could you also research the dimensions for the other VAG diesel types?
I think, considering the values associated with the ZR (presumably referring to a specific component), this would be worth a short technical article (mainly including all new and wear dimensions, plus a few keywords about the normal optical aging process of the ZR, and warning signs for imminent/premature replacement). Everything is available in the ContiTech online catalog.
Can I possibly say everything tonight?

Hello Ulf,
Here are the most important timing belt components for a TDI engine.
ZR values.
Motor | Teeth profile | Tooth gap | Width
1.9L VP TDI engine, 137 horsepower, LAHR 9,252, 25.4mm (including ZW).
1.9L VP TDI engine, 141 horsepower, LAHR (manufacturer), 9,252 (likely a part number or code), 25.4mm (likely a measurement, 'without timing wheel').
1.9L PD TDI, 120 hp, HTDA, 9,252, 30mm.
2.0 l PD TDI 141 HTDA 9.525 30mm
Typically, wear values are around 10% of the original width. |

Bitte gib den Text an, den du übersetzt haben möchtest.
The wear values are normally around 10% of the original width. |
Thank you!

 UUUUPS, a bad mistake!!
The wear values are normally around 10% below the original width. |

Well, who can imagine a ZR (presumably referring to a specific component or object) with a width reduced by 10% as still being functional... *chuckle*
I certainly understood the "depreciation" in the sense of loss. Gruß Ulf

Hello everyone!
Is it a reckless and foolish speculation on my part to assume that the ZR can actually handle 150t, but that the manufacturer isn't taking any risk? The constant switching costs VAG nothing, only the driver .
(So, in a test group of 100 representative, cross-sectioned TDI tires, one might fail at 115,000 kilometers, while the rest would typically last around 200,000 kilometers, following a normal distribution.)
Reason: My car is in such bad condition that I don't want to finance the replacement!
Unfortunately, I really have absolutely no idea about that, and I haven't looked at any during an interview process either. What do they typically look like when they change?
Have people ever attempted the maximum effort out of ignorance, and how far did they get?
A few weeks ago, there was a thread with a really cool photo of a 'dental floss ' (literally, 10%), and it was still active! (Unfortunately, I couldn't find the thread).
Best regards, |

Furthermore, it's a different thing whether you drive 150,000 km in the city or on the highway. In that case, the timing belt will certainly last more than double the time . |
