Hello everyone!
I'm having the following problem:
Specifically, I've been working on my winter car (a Golf 3 Variant, manufactured in 1996) for the past 3 months. This included installing all the wiring harnesses, putting in the air conditioning system, and completely installing a 90 horsepower TDI engine, among other things.
Now I've finally finished all the work on my car after 2 weeks, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
All the technical components (engine, transmission, control unit, etc.) are from a 1995 Volkswagen Golf 3 Cabrio that was involved in an accident.
Now, as I mentioned before, I'm quite happy with my car, except for two crucial things.
'Specifically, both the ABS and the traction control (TCS) are not working. However, I was already aware that something needs to be unlocked in the engine control unit (ECU) for these two functions to work.'
Well, a few days ago I drove to Volkswagen so that an electrician could unlock these two features in the engine control unit. He tried, but he failed.
The electrician then asked me if I had an engine control unit manufactured before 1996 or after 1996, and whether it was a 'black and silver' or a 'silver' type.
Ich habe ihm dann gesagt vor 96, und 'schwarz-silber'. Dann hat er mir schon gesagt, dass das nicht ginge. Sprich das man Motorsteuergeräte vor Baujahr 96 nicht mehr umcodieren kann! Only after 96.
Now I wanted to ask you all. Is that correct? Perhaps there's still a way to unlock it somehow?
I would be grateful for many answers!

Hello,
I would say that's correct; I can reprogram the ECU in my 1995 Golf.
To the best of my knowledge, the engine control unit (ECU) has nothing to do with the anti-lock braking system (ABS).
Do both brake light switches work and are they properly adjusted?

The question about the VW car part referred to whether it was an MSA12 (plastic housing, black) or an MSA15 (metal housing, silver).
That has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the GRA (Game Resource Archive). I have personally unlocked GRAs for both versions myself, and everyone will confirm that MSA12 and MSA15 behave identically in that process.
Are you going to access the engine control unit (ECU) to read out values?
I once had a situation where I could access all the control units in a VW Golf 3 (WFS, ABS, as there's not much else), but I couldn't access the main engine control unit (MSTG). This was likely due to a damaged K-line.
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation. Transparency, Teamwork
... there was another T.
I don't know what the f*ck it was.
