Hello, this is my first technical question in this forum.
I bought a used T4 model year 2001, which appears to have been damaged by a weasel. During the inspection, it was discovered that the cable to the "brake sensor" on the front left side was chewed through on both wires and had not been properly repaired. This is why I always saw the warning light on the dashboard despite the brakes functioning correctly, and I heard the annoying beeping sound. Because the cable could not be soldered (due to the alloy) and could not be connected correctly mechanically (the brake discs and pads are now new), and the warning light continues to illuminate, I have the following question: Can I simply deactivate the cable harness to the front left side using the Diesel Mechanic VAG-COM software? Or if that's not possible...Is it the entire brake warning indicator? If so, how? Thank you for a tip that I, as a beginner, can understand.
Best regards, BB. |

Hi,
Without a cable connection to the ABS sensor, the ABS system will not function. That's why the warning light is on.
Tip: Install a new cable. It's also cheaper than a VAG-COM system.

Or are you referring to the brake pad wear indicator? 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

Hmm, based on the text, it sounds like a wear indicator... but doesn't that only have one lane? Or am I mistaken? It hasn't been there for the last 65,000 km.
However, I completely agree with Rainer. Disconnect the cable; it shouldn't cost much. If it's coming from the wheel sensor, it doesn't contribute significantly to safety. If it's the cable for the brake wear indicator and you want to do without it, you don't need to reprogram any control units. Just make sure the cables no longer have contact with the body and are well insulated. However, I find it quite inelegant. |

Hello.
Without a cable to the ABS sensor, there is no ABS. That's also why the warning light comes on.
The ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is a safety-critical system in the car and should be working properly. I don't know what the TÜV (German technical inspection agency) will say if the ABS warning light in the car is constantly on.
Tip: Install a new cable. It is also cheaper than a VAG-COM system.
If it's just that one cable, I would replace it immediately. If possible, I would also like to add a wire mesh guard to protect it from rodents.

Hi,
Hello, this is my first technical question in this forum.
Can I simply use the Dieselschrauber VAG-COM software to deactivate the wiring harness for the front left side – or, if that's not possible, the entire brake warning indicator?
1x No, 1x Yes.
Due to the relatively simple principle of the wear indicator in the T4 (Link), it is sufficient to connect the two wires of the cable to each other. This closes the circuit to ground, and the warning indicator disappears.
But it should definitely be handled properly.
