Hello everyone,
W"So, what's the truth now?"

Greetings.
Reuselkopp.

Adjust the engine control unit (ECU) software, and it works...

Hello,

Actually, the GT1749VA shouldn't have a significant turbo lag.
as the VNT15.
Have you checked everything? The hoses, the VTG linkage?
Has the VTG linkage on this loader ever been modified?

Okay, but if you want to exchange it.

So:
The VNT 15 is a turbocharger from the GT17V series, specifically it is a GT1749V.
However, this series is available with different levels of improvements.

Examples: VNT15 (GT1749V)
Performance // VW Part Number // Garrett Part Number
For 110 HP // 028145702 D // 454161-1 or 454161-3)
For 110 HP // 028145702 C // 454158-3
For 110/115 HP // 028145702 H // 454231-1 or 454231/3
For 115 HP // 028145402 R // 454231-2 or 454231-6

These are all turbochargers where the exhaust manifold is not integrated.
You can replace the catalytic converter here without removing the exhaust manifold.
I don't know if that works for golf.
Starting around the year 2000, the chargers for the Golf should have an integrated exhaust manifold.
haben. Diese fangen auch mit einer 038.... Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.
Loaders with a serial number ending in "H" usually have the marking "VNT15" printed on them.
Starting from the R performance level, the chargers are marked with the designation "GT1749V".

I'm not aware of a product called "VNT17." This term is usually used as a synonym for...
130 HP TDI engine with turbocharger used.
This one is also from the GT17V series. However, this one already has a higher performance level.
Therefore, GT1749VA. However, within the GT1749VA series, there are also different variations.
Revision levels. For example, VW part number 038145702E or 038145702G, etc.

I hope I was able to help you a little.

Best regards,

@Hame22

Wow, that's interesting news. I always thought the diameter of the turbine on the VNT15 was smaller than the VNT17, which doesn't actually exist. So, I understood that correctly. Is the GT1749VA essentially an upgraded version of the good old VNT15?
Then a swap wouldn't achieve anything.

"So, with the turbocharger, the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) rod wasn't adjusted before I changed it. I initially shortened the rod, but that resulted in even more turbo lag and strange noises coming from the engine compartment. Now I've turned the rod about half a rotation longer, and it seems to be working better. What's strange is that even a minimal adjustment of just a few millimeters longer or shorter significantly worsens the performance. It can't be that the adjustment is this sensitive, can it?"
What's also strange is that the engine only starts to run smoothly once the oil has warmed up.
"Could it be that I'm using the wrong type of oil? It's too thick when it's cold."
Otherwise, all the hoses and connections are tight. I've already checked everything!

The VNT 15 actually has a smaller impeller compared to the GT 1749V. At least, a VNT15 compressor housing does not fit over the impeller of the GT1749V icon_lol.gif.

The VNT15 turbocharger is also available in two versions. The number of guide vanes on the nozzle ring (VTG) varies, with 9 or 11 vanes. For example, the AJM engine has 9 vanes, while the ATJ engine has 11. Both engines have power outputs of 85/115 hp, but the AJM produces 285 Nm of torque, while the ATJ produces 310 Nm.

"Big turbo lag? I think it builds boost faster in the lower RPM range than the original. Please make a metal plate to block off my EGR valve. If the EGR valve isn't closing properly, that can also cause a significant turbo lag. Otherwise, there's probably another issue. Also, it doesn't really make sense to install a VNT 17 turbo if there's no chip installed."

No, that's not quite right. Well, maybe I didn't explain it properly.
Natürlich hat der GT1749VA einen ganz anderes Verdichterrad. It's obvious.
Ultimately, it needs to promote more growth.

.

It depends on the level of improvement you're looking for from the VNT15.
For example, the VNT15//028145702H/454231-1 has a different impeller.
as the VNT15//028145702H//454231-5
According to the parts list, the VNT15//028145702H//454231-5 has the same compressor wheel as...
GT1749V//028145702R/454231-2
The upgrade levels GT1749V/028145702R/ 454231-2 or 454231-6 are:
The adjusting ring has two more valves compared to the VNT15.
So, the VNT15 has 9 vanes, and the GT1749V has 11 vanes.

Here it comes.
The GT1749VA has the same adjuster ring and the same exhaust housing as the...
from GT1749V, upgrade level 028145702R//454231-2 or 454231-6.
Which, in theory, should be identical to the A/R ratio on the exhaust side.

However, the air-to-refrigerant ratio on the compressor side is different.
To the best of my knowledge, the GT1749VA has a slightly smaller...
A/R value is equivalent to GT1749V.

All information is provided without guarantee.

I hope I was able to clarify things a bit.

Best regards,

At the risk of being beaten up for this:
Use a diode as a mass airflow sensor (MAF), seal the EGR valve, and then either use a chip or a 10-cent piece.
You won't recognize the car. It might produce a lot of soot with the diode, but there's no sign of turbo lag (even with the original tuning and diode, it makes a huge difference - this only applies to the AFN engine).
What I mean to say is: Even the original VNT15 turbocharger can contribute significantly to a smooth power delivery in the AFN engine from the lower RPM range. With a chip tuning, it's certainly possible to achieve even better results!
