Hello everyone,

I wanted to show you my new intake manifold for my AFN (Golf 3).
'This thing is really cool, and it lets a lot more air through than the original one; you can already see that in the pictures!'

The intake manifold comes from a Volkswagen Passat with a 130 horsepower engine.
You just need to attach an adapter, and then you can use it without any problems.

Regards,
DJ.

Sure, here's the translation:

'P.S.: Of course, I expanded it to cover gasket sizes icon_lol.gif'

Hi,

Nice project! Do you also have any log files that show the air mass at full load before and after the modification?

Best regards, Rainer.

Best regards, Rainer,

Well, my cylinder head is currently being worked on using a flow bench.

'That will give me the airflow readings before and after, each with this intake manifold.'

DJ.

Since the heads of the AFN, 1Z, and AHU engines are the same, shouldn't this also be possible with the smaller TDI engines?

Finally, someone who can put my ideas into action.

I never had a reliable source to get replacement nipples at reasonable prices.
"However, I knew that the one from the Passat would fit because the seal is the same."

tip: Also use the parking brake; your engine mounts will thank you for it!

Where did you get those socks?

VW wants more than 200 euros for it.

Here is the first documented mention.

My windshield motor also has such an intake manifold like your 1Z icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif.

Here's a comparison of what the "Stutzen" (a type of gaiter or protective covering) does for the 1Z (likely referring to a specific product or system):

Hmm?

What do I mean by "shut-off valve"?
Hold the access panel closed.

The part where the EGR valve is located also has a flap inside that can completely seal off the passage. It's pneumatically controlled up to Euro 3 standards, and from Euro 4 onwards, it uses an electric motor (acting as a proper throttle valve).

When stopped, it closes, which causes the pistons to leak out of the vacuum and prevents a "dumping" stroke. This eliminates the loud noise that engines like the 1Z, AHU, and AFN make when being turned off.
Okay, the anti-lag system might reduce some engine roughness, but my 1Z sounds terrible.

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

The AFN has no throttle valve or anything like that.
Just put a 60mm hose over the nozzle and it's good icon_cool.gif.

DJ.

YES!!!

That's exactly why you now have this unique and easy opportunity to upgrade that flap with the 130 horsepower Passat trim.

If I do this on the 1Z, I'll have to build an adapter first because the lid only fits the 3-bolt flanges, and I only have the hose connection.

But you just keep adding to it, and that's it.

Since the AFN already has the EDC15, you also have the downstream signals from the engine control unit (ECU). So, simply add a relay between the ESP disabler and relay 109, and the electrical connection is complete. Specifically, when the EDC still has power but the ELAB is shutting down, the bypass valve should also close.

... and soon your 200 horsepower rocket will be running smoothly.

Hi,
Am I correct in assuming that the EGR valve is not installed at the same time, or does it then sit between the adapter and the throttle body?

Hello,

Okay, as I said, I do everything without a throttle valve.
I'll leave out the AGR part - of course.
Simply slide the rubber hose over the adapter and you're done.

You can probably omit the AGR (Abgasrückführung valve) here because nothing essential seems to be missing.
As usual, a 5mm steel plate is placed over the EGR hole with a gasket.

DJ.

Hello everyone,

Okay, the head is completely finished (complete program icon_cool.gif).

'@Rainer K.: You can find the flow rate values before and after using the large intake manifold in the attachment.'

It should be noted that the previous flow rate was with the original head and a large intake manifold.
The flow rate after modification is achieved with a head featuring enlarged channels and a large suction pipe.

Regards,
DJ.
