Hi gearheads!

Since I just removed the cylinder head (Passat, 174,000 km), I noticed that the inside of the intake manifold is coated with a 2-4 mm thick, tar-like layer of oil residue. It's normal for fine oil droplets to be present, but with such deposits???? Should I clean it or just ignore it??? Would it also be a good idea to prophylactically lubricate the linkage to the wastegate on the turbocharger with anti-seize compound??? Thank you in advance icon_eek.gif.

Best regards, Christian.

Hey Christian,
I think a cleaning would definitely do him good, because anything that's soot and grime takes up space that should be reserved for the necessary air. And the engine can never get enough of that air. That stuff is probably a mixture of crankcase ventilation and EGR. Maybe the EGR valve also needs some attention?

Best regards from Bielefeld.

Peter.

Hi Peter!

Thank you for the quick response!! I'm just not sure how to clean the channels in the Zyko... I replace the valve stem seals, which means taking the valves out and running solvent through them??? I'll take a look at the EGR valve.

Best regards, Christian.

Hey Christian,
I don't think it will work well with thinner. It will probably require more mechanical cleaning. It's definitely better if the valves are removed for this.
I wish you lots of fun and, above all, success with it. It's kind of like chimney sweeping.

Peter.

Hi!

Unfortunately, the EGR valve will no longer function if the small vacuum hose is disconnected and sealed. However, we wouldn't do that, because then your operating license would be void...

Best regards,
Uwe.

I would never do that!!!!! If, by chance, the hose were to get clogged, I would immediately go to VW to have it repaired icon_lol.gif!
