Hi.
I'm trying to order the seat heater for my G4. The dealer says the seat heater is sewn into the fabric cover. I tried to order the cover using the vehicle identification number (VIN), but it showed a cover without seat heating. I've now removed the cover as far as I can so I can see the part number. In the process, I discovered that the seat heater isn't sewn into the cover for me; it's a separate unit underneath the seat. The dealer says there's no separate heater element available. However, this feature is only available without the heating element.
It's a G4, manufactured in March 2001, a special edition model.
Seat cover, part number: 1J0 881 405 T LXB.
The car was originally equipped with heated seats from the factory. Certainly.

Do you have any ideas about this? Or can you tell me what kind of heating element it is, and how/where I can order it? Sure, here's the translation:

"Possibly with ET number."

Best regards, Bolzer.

If anyone knows the exact model number... If you need a phone number, just send me a private message.

"For understanding:"

You have a SH in there, but it's broken, so you want to order a single, new one?

Hi.
Yep. Exactly. I probably wrote it in a slightly confusing way. Sorry.
Best regards, Bolzer.

Hi, usually it's just a broken cable that can be soldered (connection between the power cord and the heating element or the plug).

Despite the requested numbers:

Seat: 1J0 936 555 with index:
B for standard seats.
F for which with extended print run.
G for Recaro.

Lehne: 1J0 936 557 with index:
C for standard seats.
F for which with extended print run.
G for Recaro.

If the model code on the service sticker does not read "PR-2Q2", you have the standard seat version. For the other versions, there are also options for the side panels, but before you choose those, you should first figure out which ones are broken.

Cost: €57 each.

In case of any uncertainties, we need the codes from the service booklet.

Regards,
Guste.

Hi.
Thank you for the quick help. Why couldn't the friendly person find it icon_question.gif icon_confused.gif? Never mind. The seat cushion still works. Actually, it works too well. It's almost burning a hole in my... well, you know. But only in one spot. That's strange. I've also read that someone at BMW is in a bit of a tight spot.
Thanks again for everything. I'll pass this along to my mechanic. Let's see what he has to say.
Best regards, Bolzer.

No idea, it was totally obvious. You should probably go back when a different person is at the parts counter. The level of expertise also varies greatly depending on the person at my VW dealership. From completely useless to friendly and helpful.

Guste.

Hello, your "hot topic" suggests that the wire broke at a particularly hot spot, and that movement causes it to come into contact with the metal body, creating sparks and re-igniting the heating element (resulting in a higher contact resistance).
The spot with the thinnest wire is most likely to heat up, resulting in localized heating.
In some places, the material is also scorched, which can be seen from the blackened areas.

"The same thing happened to mine. Where the seat cushion meets the side bolsters (Highline seats), the cable for the heating pad broke and scorched the fabric." The cables have been resoldered, properly insulated, and it's been working without any problems since then.
