Hello,

I had a custom exhaust system made (70mm diameter from the turbo), and now I'm wondering if I should install a catalytic converter after all.

You're probably wondering, 'Which one?'
Can the 100-cell catalytic converters (which are also used for VR6 turbos) be used?

Has anyone had any experience with that?

Thank you in advance for any tips!

Best regards,
DJ1

No, that's not possible.

So: Either take it out (illegally) or leave the original one in.

Best regards, Michael.

Hmm, I've just skimmed through the texts:

'In a diesel engine, the excess oxygen in the exhaust gas prevents the reduction of NOx and necessitates the use of specialized catalysts.'

If the diesel engine has sufficient power and therefore operates without an excess of oxygen?

I once inquired with a seller of 100/250-cell catalytic converters, and they mentioned that they had already sold some to TDI drivers, which makes me a bit uncertain.

Regards,
DJ.

It already smokes like crazy with a "mass lambda" setting of 1.
Nowadays, one would only subject the audience to such a thing for a limited time, perhaps on a racetrack.

There are special 100-cell catalytic converters for diesel engines.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the link right now. Just do a quick Google search...

Check out HJS!

http://www.hjs-motorsport.de/produkte_partikel.php

There are DPFs (Diesel Particulate Filters) specifically designed for racing. Furthermore, a simple email or phone call will quickly clarify the purpose and necessity of a 200-cell catalytic converter.

They also have extensive knowledge in the diesel sector.

The city filter, depending on the model, is a DPF combined with a catalytic converter.

Furthermore, HJS has extensive experience with diesel engines in motorsports.

Best regards, Jochen.

Hello,

Okay, I've made a few phone calls and found out the following:

So, there are special 100-cell diesel catalytic converters (with a special coating), and I'll be getting more information about them next week (according to Mike Rohte).

Hjs-Motorsport believes that standard 100-cell catalytic converters are also suitable for diesel engines, provided that they are not used for motorsport events.

Regards,
DJ.

Hello, if 100 cells are good, then 200 are even better.
Can't you use the catalytic converter from the 2.5 TDI? It has a diameter of 170 mm and...

Hmm, I've also been considering getting one with a 'large diesel' engine.

BMW 535d or Audi.

I need to take a look...
