Hello everyone, I need your help.
After a long illness and the resulting unemployment, I have finally found work again. However, I now have to commute a relatively long distance and therefore had to buy an economical car. My choice fell on an older Passat Variant TDI (VIN 94, GL equipment).
Unfortunately, my current bank account doesn't allow for any more. The car actually seems to be in good condition (second hand, the previous owner had it for about 10 years and was almost 60, the AU and TÜV are almost new and without defects, okay, there are a few dents but what does it matter...). The only problem it has is the control unit. However, the seller told me about this before the purchase. The unit broke down three months ago and was replaced with another, used one (I have the invoice). The seller understandably didn't want to invest another €1000 in an original one. However, since the control unit is no longer original, the Passat now has two problems. First, a somewhat uneven engine speed at certain RPMs (which is best described as a kind of rapid vibration, almost like trembling), and second, he doesn't like to accelerate (at RPMs around or above 3000, regardless of gear) anymore. One must then maintain the speed and can then essentially accelerate gradually.
Currently, a control unit with the following part number (VW/Bosch) is installed: 028 906 021 B /
0 281 001 172/173. Previously (although the original date of manufacture, 18.11.97, may not be accurate... perhaps the original owner had replaced it), there was (the faulty control unit) 028 906 021 FC / 0 281 001 566.
I hope you can help me further. First, do the two faults really originate from the control unit (which I assume and hope), and secondly, and most importantly: Which control unit do I possibly need, or which one is compatible with my Passat (66kW, engine code IZ)?
Thank you in advance. I would really like to avoid going to the VW workshop. Firstly, due to the age of the car, and secondly, due to the exorbitant costs there.
Best regards, Andreas
